Job Summary

The Technology and Web Services Librarian will assist in the development and maintenance of tools, systems, and applications that enhance researchers' ability to pursue new and innovative avenues for learning and study, using the Library's resources and expertise. He or she will work across departments as a technology-savvy collaborator, while sustaining current development and making new projects and services come to life. The Technology and Web Services Librarian works with all library stakeholders, particularly the Library Director, Head of Faculty Services, Head of Public Services, and Head of Technical Services to prioritize projects, and collaborates with all librarians leveraging their resource knowledge and expertise in relevant areas.

The Technology and Web Services Librarian will be a member of the law library faculty and report to the Library Director, and will work closely with all members of the law school community in implementing new technology services and programs to support teaching, research, and scholarship. Depending on qualifications and experience, the Technology and Web Services Librarian may serve on the Law Library’s management team.

The University of Colorado Law School’s William A. Wise Law Library is seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and service-driven individual to fill the position of Technology and Web Services Librarian to help us in shaping services and collections for 21st century learners, educators, and scholars.  The Law Library is a state-of-the-art modern library housing the largest collection of legal materials in Colorado. The Law Library supports the vision of the law school: A supportive and diverse community of scholars and students in a place that inspires vigorous pursuit of ideas, critical analysis, and civic engagement in order to advance the rule of law in an open, sustainable society.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Assesses new standards, technologies, and trends, and help develop plans and strategies for future enhancement of the law library’s web presence; contribute to the development of plans to market resources and collections and build community awareness of law library services.
  • Develops web pages, applications, and relational databases to create an interactive and dynamic law library web site; focuses on developing applications to provide information about law library services and resources and expand individual and collaborative use of collections.
  • Integrates social web applications on the law library’s website, including development of tailored portals for categories of library users.
  • Coordinates user testing and usability studies of the Library’s web presence.
  • Assists in the technical development of online tutorials, podcasts, and other online training tools.
  • Serves as the in-house technology consultant for the Law Library.
  • Explores how technology could be utilized to improve information management and the practice of law.
  • Participates in law library, law school, and university committees.
  • Serves as a member of the law library faculty and will hold rank of instructor.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this permanent, full time position will be commensurate with experience and academic credentials. Starting salary for an entry level position is $68,000. The position includes CU Boulder’s generous benefits package.

What We Require

Degree from a library program accredited by the American Library Association offering the MLS, MSLIS, or MSIS degree.

What You Will Need

  • Knowledge of content management principles and experience implementing a content management plan.
  • Proficiency in writing web applications with commonly used library programming languages including JavaScript, PHP, Perl, CGI, CSS. Experience with relational database tools including MySQL, MS SQL, MS Access or equivalent; and configuring Solr indexes. Experience with Drupal, and working knowledge of Adobe Dreamweaver or similar web development platforms.
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in web standards, web design, implementation, and management.
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a clear and effective manner and to articulate innovative uses of technology. Ability to use Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, and to be able to train others in the use of those applications.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills; creativity; flexibility and ability to work as a member of a team.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Familiarity with library metadata standards and best practices (MARC, Dublin Core, MODS, Linked Data).
  • Experience with UNIX/Linux and Islandora.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer sciences or related fields.
  • Juris Doctorate degree or experience in legal environment.
  • Experience working in a library and teaching.
