Job Summary

The Graduate School at the University of Colorado Boulder seeks applicants for the non-tenure-track position of Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor, to begin fall 2024. This faculty member will be rostered in the Department of Applied Mathematics (APPM) and teach primarily in the MS in Data Science (MSDS). The successful applicant will be fluent in applied mathematics and statistics for data science, including proficiency in R or Python programming language; and will be prepared to teach data science courses including statistical methods, regression, and statistical learning. Preference will be given to applicants who are qualified to teach a wide range of applied mathematics and statistics courses at the undergraduate and graduate level, including large lower-division classes (between 90-150 students). The ideal candidate will assist in the development of data science degree programs. Additional responsibilities may include application reviews, coordinating multi-section courses, supervising teaching assistants, serving on departmental committees, supporting growth in the university’s data science degree offerings, and advising data science students.

This faculty member will report to the Chair of APPM and will work in close collaboration with the Faculty Director of the MSDS. Who We Are

The Graduate School at the University of Colorado Boulder serves as the intellectual crossroads of the university. Nearly 6,000 graduate students from around the world come to CU Boulder to pursue graduate certificates, master’s and doctoral degrees in over 130 programs. We offer degrees across a full range of fields which alongside our robust interdisciplinary programs and institutes provide an outstanding environment in which to pursue graduate work.

In 2021, through a collaboration between the Graduate School and Departments of Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Information Science, the University of Colorado Boulder launched an interdisciplinary MS in Data Science with two modalities: an asynchronous, online professional Master of Science degree in Data Science hosted on the Coursera platform, and an on-campus, in-person professional Master of Science degree in Data Science.

The degree programs are interdisciplinary drawing on CU Boulder faculty expertise in statistics, applied mathematics, data science, computer science, information science, geospatial analytics, natural language processing, business analytics and more. The curriculum offers technical depth and functional breadth that also emphasizes cross- functional communication and teamwork, skills vital to data scientists who increasingly work with partners across a wide spectrum of domains.
