Job Summary

The Office of Academic Learning and Innovation encourages applications for a Senior Learning Experience Designer! This is a full-time position that reports to the Assistant Director of Program Design in the Office of Academic and Learning Innovation. As a Senior Learning Experience Designer, this position works directly with faculty, student assistants, and platform managers, as well as with guiding and learning technologies, to design and produce creative, important, and powerful learning experiences for both non-credit and for-credit online course offerings and programs. The incumbent consults with faculty to adapt and iterate on existing course materials for online delivery, engaging in course design from ideation to development to analytics, and building brand-new next generation learning experiences from the ground up.

This position plays a central role in project management, coordinating with CU Boulder’s Coursera support team to see that ALI’s pedagogical mission can be delivered successfully on the Coursera platform. This involves overseeing the production of both non-credit and for-credit courses, ensuring seamless communication of critical updates to degree program staff, and playing a key role in pilot program on the platform. The project management responsibilities extend to the maintenance of for-credit template items, ensuring consistency and quality across the portfolio. The Senior Learning Experience Designer is also charged with ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the Learning Experience Design team through evaluation and iteration of systems, processes and documentation and by supporting the professional development of junior colleagues through mentorship. Additionally, the position will take a leading role in representing CU Boulder and the Office of Academic and Learning Innovation when engaging with partners across campus and in higher education.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

The Office of Academic and Learning Innovation (ALI) is an agile and responsive unit of CU Boulder Online within the Division of Academic Affairs tasked with designing next generation learning experiences that engage the local and global University of Colorado Boulder community. Our mission is three-fold: inspire a re-imagination of instruction and learning, expand access to high-quality learning experiences, and transform higher education for the 21st century. Our work spans innovative on-campus program development, MOOCs, scaled online courses, programs, and degrees, and designing new business and technical processes to support our academic vision.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Lead maintenance and iteration of existing courses and programs, engaging with student and partner feedback, applying quality assurance methods for continuous improvement, and producing actionable improvement plans.
  • Serve as a point of contact regarding course development status for several online post-graduate degree programs, monitor the ongoing development progress of for-credit courses, and communicate updates and concerns as necessary to degree program staff.
  • Research and implement established and emergent educational tools and technologies to (1) enhance learning and pedagogical strategy and (2) ensure transformational student learning outcomes.
  • Provide mentorship to junior colleagues in learning design and project management. Supervise project assistants, including onboarding, training, distribution and oversight of projects, regular check-ins, and mentorship, when necessary.
  • Collaborate with CU Boulder’s Coursera support team and other Coursera partner institutions to optimize platform functionality and ensure that it supports ALI’s pedagogical mission, including playing a significant supporting role in running platform pilots.
  • Additional job duties as required, including, but not limited to, hiring, training and supervising student employees. This position will be flexible and responsive to emergent needs and responsibilities.
