Job Summary

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) welcomes applications for an Advance Practice Nurse. The APN will conduct psychiatric evaluations and psychiatric follow-up appointments; provide case consultation to a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, social workers, LPC's, and interns; and collaborate with CAPS staff on all aspects of clinical service delivery.

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) offers confidential, on-campus mental health and psychiatric services for a variety of concerns such as academics, anxiety, body image, depression, relationships, substance use and more.

CAPS fosters the well-being of students and helps them succeed by providing a full range of clinical services, consultation, and outreach to the campus community.  We also offer outstanding training to the next generation of mental health professionals. CAPS is a multicultural, multidisciplinary, and multi-theoretical staff.  We are committed to affirming diversity and seek to provide a safe and welcoming environment for everyone we serve.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide Medical/Psychiatric Coverage
  • New psychiatric evaluations and follow-up appointments.
  • Psychiatric and staff consultations. 
  • Urgent/Crisis clinical services.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests when indicated.
Administrative
  • Attend meetings and trainings.
  • Collaborate with other departments and clinics.
  • Comply with all CAPS guidelines around charting/documentation/billing/quality improvement. 
  • Participate in peer reviews
  • Represent the department in mental health topic presentations.

What We Require

  • A Master of Science Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by the American Nurses Association or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, conferred by May 2019.
  • Current registration in the State of Colorado as an Advanced Practice Nurse by date of hire.
  • Certification as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner from the American Nurse’s Credentialing Center. 
  • Prescriptive authority from the Colorado State Board of Nursing. 
  • Eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure.

What You Will Need

  • Basic functional computer skills (experience with Windows based systems).

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working within mental health settings. 
  • Experience working with electronic health records. 
  • Experience with diagnosis and treatment of ADHD disorders and Substance Use disorders. 
  • Experience conducting sessions in Spanish/Mandarin/Arabic. 
  • Experience working with minority and under-served populations.
  • Experience working with international students. 
  • Counseling and Psychiatric Services desires individuals who want to work in a collaborative multidisciplinary team environment. 
  • Two or more years of experience within a psychiatric field.
