Job Summary

The University of Colorado Law School encourages applications for an Assistant Dean of Student Services to serve as the primary point of contact for support and service for all Colorado Law students. We are looking for an effective leader with an enthusiastic dedication to the educational mission of the Law School and a passion for helping students achieve their academic and professional goals.

The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.

Who We Are

We are an engaged, diverse, and inclusive community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who help one another succeed. Our selective admissions process keeps our student body small, enabling our faculty, staff, alumni, and community to invest deeply in each student’s success. Because we take our responsibility to educate and train future lawyers very seriously, our curriculum, research centers, and experiential learning opportunities are crafted to prepare students for success in today’s changing legal environment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Support for Students

  • Serve as the Law School’s primary point of administrative support for students and handle high-stakes student issues and student support needs such as:
    • Issues with legal/liability implications, such as matters within OIEC’s jurisdiction, disability accommodations, etc.
    • Students experiencing emergencies, using campus resources, and communicating with faculty and staff colleagues.
    • Respond to faculty concerns about individual student well-being and safety by providing resources and training for faculty members to identify and direct students in crisis.
    • Provide referrals for students in need of professional assistance.
    • Support students in troubleshooting issues with campus processes (e.g., improper denial of funds, student conduct issues, etc.).
    • Serve as a liaison to campus offices such as CAPS, SSCM, Disability Services (in coordination with Registrar), and assist in resolving issues and communicating law school policies.
    • Assist in identifying programs for students, and in promoting and publicizing student achievements and accomplishments in programs within Colorado Law and with external organizations (e.g., service and bar association awards, student competitions, scholarships, earned media, etc.).

Student Affairs Leadership

  • Lead the planning and implementation of student programming such as new student orientation, commencement, and student awards events.
  • Meet regularly with the Senior Assistant Dean to discuss priorities, activities, and issues.
  • Work closely with Law School Registrar and Associate and Assistant Deans to facilitate student support.
  • Provide leadership and input on communications with the student body.

Budgetary and Fiscal Responsibility

  • Serve on Student Fee Committee (SFC) and advise SFC leadership; work with Assistant Director of Operations and Finance on issues that arise; administer conference and travel budget through delegated authority from SFC.
  • Manage Student Affairs budgets, including emergency funds.
  • Serve on the Loan Repayment Assistance Program (LRAP) and Scholarship committees.

Policy Issues and Advising

  • Advise Student Bar Association President and other executive officers on any student concerns.
  • Advise Honor Council members, the Senior Assistant Dean, and the Dean on Honor Code issues.

What You Should Know

  • This position will work primarily on campus with some flexibility for remote work hours.
  • This position requires some evening and weekend work hours.
