Job Summary

Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) encourages applications for an Assistant Director of the Clinical Equity Team. This role will lead a complementary team of licensed mental health professionals in providing high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to CU Boulder students. The team will focus on creating and implementing programs and initiatives that promote clinical equity among our student body. 

The Assistant Director of the Clinical Equity Team’s duties will include (1) the provision of high quality clinical mental health services to the student body; (2) serving as a leader on clinical equity issues across CAPS and Health & Wellness with a focus on creating policies that support access and mental health equity for all students; (3) Participating as a member of the Counseling and Psychiatric Services (CAPS) Leadership Team (Director, Associate Directors, Assistant Directors) to advise and support daily operations, and (4) providing direct supervision, management, and oversight to the Clinical Equity Team. 

CU Boulder CAPS is a training clinic, and as such, this position may provide formal or informal supervision to staff in training, including Post-Master's Social Work Fellows, Psychology Interns, Psychology Practicum Students and/or Psychology Post-Doc Fellows. 

This position may also provide after-hours consultation and support, as needed. 

This position will collaborate with other campus departments as needed to treat CAPS students and ensure that individual experiences and systemic factors are considered in all assessment, treatment referral, and training services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Direct Clinical Services
  • Provide direct therapy services to the student body, including individual therapy, group therapy, crisis intervention, and screening appointments, with a focus on providing access and services for all CU students. 
  • Consultation and/or outreach with direct impact on student mental health equity. 
  • Services can be provided both in-person and virtually. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation via the EHR. 
Administrative & Program Development
  • Working with the Clinical Equity Team and CAPS Director, set and implement the priorities for the Clinical Equity Team with a focus on the provision of equitable services for all CU Students, with a focus on removing barriers to accessing mental health support. 
  • Assess the quality of services and impact of programs through data collection and program evaluation.
  • Provide direct oversight and supervision to the members of the Clinical Equity Team, including evaluation and career development planning through the Performance Management Plan Process.
  • Facilitate and maintain relationships with campus partners in support of student mental health equity.
  • Provide strong, collaborative working relationships with the Clinical Equity Team and other clinical providers within CAPS, including those who sit on the Social Justice Committee and CAPS Multicultural Specialists.
  • Serve on the CAPS Leadership Team and collaborate with CAPS Leadership on daily operations, policies and procedures, and implementation of new programs.
Supervision/Consultation/Training
  • Provide clinical consultation to CAPS staff on issues related to clinical equity. 
  • Provide training to CAPS staff (or other H&W staff, when needed) on issues of Clinical Equity.
  • Provide clinical supervision to CAPS staff-in-training, when needed. 

What You Should Know

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with flexible hours within the 8AM—5 PM window. This position offers a hybrid work modality with up to 2 days of remote work and 3 days in the office per week, and will provide after-hours on-call support when needed. 

What We Can Offer

  • The hiring range for this position is $90,000-$122,800. Relocation is available for eligible candidates.

What We Require

  • Licensed mental health provider (Psychologist, LPC, LCSW, LMFT) in the State of Colorado by the day of hire.
    • For psychologists: Completion of an APA-accredited program and internship.
  • 4+ years of professional experience providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment as a licensed clinician.
  • A strong foundational knowledge of health equity principles.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience.
  • Experience providing group and individual supervision.
  • Experience providing crisis assessment and interventions.
  • Experience providing consultations to faculty and staff.
  • Experience providing brief therapy.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges as determined by the Department’s Credentialing and Privileging Department.

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • 2+ years of experience working within a health equity program OR experience developing and implementing programming focused on health equity.
  • 2+ years of experience working within program development and evaluation.
  • 4+ years of experience providing mental health services in a college or university student population.
  • Experience in data gathering and analysis.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State standards regarding mental health.
