Job Summary

The Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs (PG/BAP) team, in the Office of Advancement at the University of Colorado Boulder, is seeking a proven front-line development officer for the role of Associate Director of Development. The PG/BAP office is a campus-level development team passionate about helping CU Boulder achieve its three imperatives through philanthropy – shape tomorrow's leaders, be the top university for innovation and positively impact humanity. The Associate Director will work in a designated region to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward parent and alumni major gift donors through collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving. This position is one of three reports to the Senior Director of Development. The PG/BAP office is led by the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs.

Who We Are

The office of Parent Giving and Boulder Advancement Programs is dedicated to engaging alumni, parents, and friends with the University of Colorado for the specific goal of securing philanthropic gifts to the Parent Fund and broader CU Boulder campus-level programs. The Parent Fund provides direct support for the programs and initiatives (i.e., health and wellness, career services, academic tutoring, etc.) offered to all students through the Division of Student Affairs. Donor contributions to a variety of campus-level programs, i.e., financial aid, veterans, study abroad, etc., provide funding for the most impactful student success priorities and are investments in CU Boulder's prominence as an institution of higher education.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Front-Line Development Work 
  • Works to identify and cultivate new and existing individual relationships with the purpose of growing philanthropic support for the campus and increasing donor impact at CU.
  • Develops and manages a portfolio consisting of (largely) parents and alumni, from a specific region, capable of making gifts of $100,000 or more.
  • Meets and/or exceeds goals related to donor meetings, number of proposals or grants submitted, and dollars raised. Goals to be set with and approved by the Senior Director of Development.
  • Works closely with CU leadership, including Deans, senior administrators, and faculty, as needed, to develop and execute cultivation and engagement strategies, including individual meetings, small dinners and receptions, in order to reach established goals and objectives. Facilitates meaningful relationships between donors and CU leadership to ensure positive philanthropic outcomes.
  • Travels to designated region at least 8-10 times annually and spends 3-4 days per trip in meetings to advance CU's mission and donor relationships.
  • Works daily to ensure timely and accurate completion of proposals, pledge documentation, and fund agreements.
  • Documents prospect strategies, writes contact reports, evaluates new prospects and generates general correspondence/communication to cultivate major gift prospects.
  • Represents the University at events in order to support CU and cultivate donors.
Other duties as assigned.

What You Should Know

This position is responsible for traveling to a designated region at least 8-10 times annually and spends 3-4 days per trip in meetings to advance CU's mission and donor relationships.

This position does include some nights and weekend commitments.

The salary range for this position starts at $70,000 and is commensurate with experience.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 
  • Minimum of 4 years of successful front-line fundraising. 
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products; Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; and BSR-Advance.

What You Will Need

  • Concrete knowledge of fundraising strategies and techniques for individuals, including annual, major and blended gift solicitations. 
  • Expert ability to communicate verbally and in writing, and develop and maintain interpersonal/professional relationships. 
  • Deep commitment to collaboration and teamwork within office and across the Advancement Division. 
  • Demonstrated capacity to analyze information/situations and solve problems. 
  • Unquestionable integrity and work ethic, and ability to balance sensitive information discretely and maintain the highest levels of confidentiality. 
  • Solid ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously; ability to work independently, collaboratively, and adapt to changing priorities. 
  • Understanding of current issues facing public universities. 
  • Personal computer proficiency required, especially as related to the software referenced in the "What We Require" section. Computer skills may be subject to testing/verification.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Graduate degree or work in a related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within higher education strongly preferred.
