Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an Assistant Technical Director! Our Assistant Technical Director is responsible for assisting the CU Athletics Technical Director in managing the technical infrastructure, operation and technical staff for NCAA Football, Basketball, Volleyball games along with other sports and various high-profile events including concerts, graduations, Bolder Boulder and other internal and external special events.
The Assistant Technical Director will assist the Technical Director in the configuration, deployment, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of all audio and video equipment throughout CU Athletic Facilities including Folsom Stadium, CU Events Center, Prentup Field, Potts Field and Indoor Practice Facility along with our premium special event spaces. This position is responsible for planning, staffing and implementing Technical support for all special events including corporate meetings, conferences, banquets, weddings, trade-shows, and internal Athletic department meetings and staff functions.
The Assistant Technical Director, along with the Technical Director, will collaborate and coordinate with multiple technical partners like ESPN, Fox Sports, KOA Radio, Buffvision and various other partners, vendors and contractors to achieve smooth operational success and the highest quality results for all CU Athletics games and special events.
Additionally, this role provides support in management, scheduling, and training of Technical Staff for game day and special events. The Assistant Technical Director will collaborate with internal and external partners from concept through event conclusion. The successful candidate must thrive under pressure, have a passion for technical event production and logistics, possess superior organizational skills and the ability to multitask along with exceptional attention to detail.

Who We Are
This position is responsible for promoting the philosophy and objective of the intercollegiate athletics program. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Assist with CU Athletics Technical Operations:
- Support the Technical Director with the planning, scheduling, and deployment of Audio & Video equipment and staffing for CU athletic game days and special events.
- Setup, operate and maintain audio, video, broadcast and AV related data infrastructure within CU Athletic facilities.
- Design and implement audio and video system solutions based on individual event needs.
CU Athletic Game Day Technical Operations:
- Live Audio mixer for sound reinforcement of CU Athletics Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Volleyball, Track & Field, Soccer, Lacrosse and other sport support.
- Assist with Game Day set-up, verify proper operation of all sound and TV systems throughout Folsom Field including Stadium PA system, Premium Suites, Dal Ward, Champions Center, Bryon White Club, Flatirons Club, Balch Fieldhouse, and perimeter Policy Speakers along with the CU Events Center for Basketball, Volleyball and other sports as needed.
- Coordinate with TV Broadcast team for Park & Power, tie-in to camera feeds, instant replay, fiber transmission, telephone, ring-down lines, clock & score data, and internet. Provide access and guidance for various TV camera locations and communicate game day expectations.
- Possess an advanced understanding and ability to handle audio and video signal flow to detect and resolve problems in a fast-paced, high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. Troubleshoot problems within an audio/video system whether digital or analog, take corrective actions, make necessary repairs or equipment swaps as required.
Special Event Preparation & Operations:
- Support the technical operation of internal, campus and external events held in CU Athletic Facilities. This includes preparation, and execution of audio, video, staging, lighting, live-stream and all other technical aspects of live and virtual events. These events vary widely from a single mic or house music in a small meeting room, to multi-day conferences and corporate meetings, to the largest stadium productions for Commencement, Concerts, Bolder Boulder, 4th of July and more.
- Ensure Technical staff provides professional atmosphere and superior support to achieve smooth operational success and the highest quality results for all CU Athletics special events. This will include providing excellent Customer Service along with some building management duties.
- Collaborate with our Folsom Events team on the Technical planning, management, and implementation of special events. This may include working with outside vendors to supplement in-house equipment for an event, as necessary.
- Operate, maintain and demonstrate professional knowledge of various audio & video systems to meet client needs including live audio mixing, feedback suppression, digital audio and video transmission, wireless mic RF management, DMX control, video projection, front & rear fast-fold screens, broadcast TV modulators, Zoom and Microsoft Teams conferencing, SDI video transmission, video matrix switchers, Crestron control interfaces, RTS & Clear-Com intercom, AC Power distribution, Cable TV distribution over coax and fiber-optic distribution.
- In the case of major equipment failure, assist to provide solutions, workarounds or temporary accommodations for the event.
Work Force Management:
- Assist the Technical Director in managing, supervising and training of all technical staff, on-call employees and onsite contractors.
- Promote an environment of professionalism and inclusiveness among technical staff and across CU Athletic departments.
- Promote and maintain a safe work environment for all staff and on-site technical personnel.
Equipment Management:
- Oversee and maintain all audio, video, broadcast and AV related data infrastructure and equipment throughout CU Athletic Facilities.
- Develop, implement and assist in the design, upgrade and installation of new audio and video equipment and systems.
- Monitor and update all equipment firmware versions and computer, hardware and software updates.
What We Can Offer
- Starting salary range is $67,000 - $72,000.

What We Require
- Two or four-year degree in audio, video or engineering related field plus at least two years of live sound mixing and/or event management experience.
- Additional experience may substitute for degree on a one-to-one year basis.
What You Will Need
- Live audio mixing and video event/production experience.
- Ability to maintain and troubleshoot audio, video, broadcast, and data systems.
- Knowledge of audio and video signal flow over various transport methods.
- Knowledge of acceptable decibel levels.
- Proficient in PC and Mac environments.
- Knowledge of AV routing methods and signal conversion.
- Core competence in Dante, Audio Architect and Sonicue environments.
- Experience in soldering and audio, video and data cable termination.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Management experience supervising events, projects, and/or AV installations.
- Management experience leading staff, vendors and/or contractors.
- Experience mixing live sound for NCAA, NFL, NBA or NHL Sporting Events.
- Experience in Concert or TV production environment.
- Proficient in electronic measurements and audio, video test procedures.
- Ability to program Dante, Audio Architect and Sonicue environments.
- Proficient with Shure Wireless Workbench and RF Wireless Frequency Assignments
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D AutoCAD or similar schematic or drawing programs.
- Knowledge in Cable TV coax distribution.
- Ability to read electronic schematics and project diagrams and blueprints.
- Ability to clean, test and troubleshoot fiber-optic cable infrastructure.
