Job Summary
The Budget and Financial Planning department at CU Boulder welcomes applications for a Budget Analyst! Under general supervision of the Directors of Budget Management and guidance from principal, senior, and fellow budget analysts, the Budget Analyst supports budget-related financial management, reporting, and analysis for the University of Colorado Boulder. The Budget Analyst serves as part of the Budget & Fiscal Planning team and works with fellow team members to improve the quality of budget management and reporting. The work of the Budget Analyst serves individuals, departments, and leadership within the larger campus community while furthering the goals and mission of the institution.

Who We Are
Finance and Business Strategy (FBS) is CU Boulder’s go-to resource for resource planning and management. FBS staff provide operational support at all levels to advance the University’s mission. FBS is lead by CU Boulder's Chief Financial Officer and is comprised of the following primary areas.
- Auxiliary Services: Children's Center, CU Book Store, Imaging Services, Parking Services.
- Budget & Finance: Budget & Fiscal Planning, Campus Controller’s Office, CCO's Research Financial Services.
- Business Strategy: Business Strategy Office, Real Estate Services.
Finance and Business Strategy is a part of CU Boulder's Strategic Resources and Support division.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Financial Reporting & Analysis:
- Provide structured and complex reporting, data expertise, and technical assistance. Maintain and update reports (routine and ad hoc), queries, and financial management information to support analysis and decision-making.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly reporting for senior management on budget, forecast, and the financial metric performance.
- Assist in the development of financial management reports and analyses in support of decision-making with regard to campus strategic initiative.
- Identify, recommend, and implement report and process improvements to enhance data quality and support management, departments, and customer requirements and goals.
- Develop and document reporting and data management policies and procedures; develop and maintain data standards and corresponding documentation and organization of electronic files.
- Identify data sources and collect data for and prepare ad-hoc, monthly, quarterly and annual reports. Validate data and review reporting to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Prepare detailed reports for senior analysts to assist with monitoring the annual operating budget and one-time investments, linking funding to outcomes, strategic goals and financial metrics.
Forecasting and Modeling:
- Determine the financial consequences of changes in programs, activities, or institutional policies affecting University finances and functional area resources.
- Contribute to the reporting preparation and design to forecast and monitor sources of revenue, including student tuition and fee revenue, ICR, General Administrative & Infrastructure Recharge (GAIR), and revenue from auxiliary operations.
- Analyze data and provide suggestions for improvement or areas of concern to Budget & Fiscal Planning leadership.
- Testing and implementing newly designed or modified funding models and financial reports to enable strategic initiatives and transitions.
Budget Support:
- Provide budget support to campus business and financial staff, including maintaining a central email account, approving entries to the budget general ledger, supporting the maintenance of website information and attending budgetary meeting while providing administrative support.
- Contribute to the design and presentation of training materials for campus stakeholders on financial issues and opportunities.
- Facilitate informal or formal dialogue toward strengthening financial management, reporting, and planning.

- The annual hiring range for this position is $62,000 - $70,000.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree in finance, business, or a related field, OR a Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field and at least one year of progressively responsible experience in finance or business.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
What You Will Need
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Word;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Interpersonal skills;
- Must be organized and able to appropriately prioritize responsibilities;
- Demonstrated ability for self-direction and initiative, as well as ability to work independently and as part of a team to address tasks;
- Ability to research issues and suggest creative solutions;
- Fluency and confidence in communicating to and with a variety of stakeholders.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Demonstrated experience develop detailed and summary reports to present financial or financial-related information;
- One year experience with forecasting and modeling activities;
- Professional work experience in a public, non profit, university, community college, or state agency associate with higher education;
- Demonstrated proficiency with database software and advanced knowledge of spreadsheet software.
