Job Summary

The Division of Student Affairs welcomes applications for a Business Services Manager. The business services team is responsible for supporting daily business transactions for key departments within Student Affairs that include, but are not limited to, procuring items on behalf of departments via the CU Marketplace or procurement card, processing expense and travel reimbursement/reconciliation requests for employee and non-employees, and completing journal entries, cash transfers, and cash deposits. 

The Business Services Manager plays an integral role in supporting the Director of Business Services by assisting in the management of projects, staff and operations, researching policy and compliance issues, and implementing process improvement efficiencies. This position is responsible for optimizing services provided to Student Affairs departments by continually evaluating policies, procedures, processes, operations, and changes in system requirements to ensure the most compliant and efficient procurement procedures are in place. They will provide technical expertise and excellent customer service utilizing independent professional judgement to develop processes and tools that assist departments and staff in meeting compliance requirements associated with state and university rules and regulations. The manager is responsible for maintaining successful relationships between the business services team, Student Affairs departments, external customers and the CU Procurement Service Center.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Operations and Workforce Management
  • Manage staff capacity and workload of the business services team. 
  • Direct and support expense reimbursements, procurement card report administration, purchase orders, vendor payments, and general departmental financial management.
  • Oversee complex procurement processes to ensure timely completion and compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with all Division, university and state and federal rules/regulations/policies affecting procurement and financial transactions.
  • Develop, implement, and analyze performance goals and customer satisfaction benchmarks for the business services team to assist the Director of Business Services in managing resources and priorities.
  • Actively work to develop and maintain a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, service enhancements, and employee development.
Business Process Improvement
  • Provide strategic direction for business services team procurement and financial transaction processes, procedures, and best practices.
  • Provide leadership and support for business process improvement initiatives.
  • Identify training needs and develop programs.
Supervision
  • Supervise technical and business professional staff in the business services team including recruitment, training, performance plans, personnel issues and performance evaluations.
  • Develop training programs and resources to develop staff and ensure consistency and standardization of business practices. 
  • Maintain effective relationships with key Student Affairs departments and takes a proactive role to evaluate operations of the business services team.
Liaison and Special Projects
  • Serve on Division and campus committees and task forces as needed.
  • Manage special projects as assigned by the Director of Business Services ensuring that project deadlines and outcome goals are met.
  • Represent the Director of Business Services at meetings and on committees and acts on the Director’s behalf as requested.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $65,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, Natural/Social/Physical Sciences, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years of professional accounting/finance experience in a complex organization.
  • Minimum of two years of successful supervisory experience directing and evaluating professional and/or technical staff.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s Degree in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience in the public sector or higher education environment involving multiple fund sources.
  • Experience with applicable systems (Concur, CU Marketplace, Cognos, PeopleSoft).
