Job Summary
The Colorado Shakespeare Festival, located on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder, encourages applications for the Lighting Supervisor and Sound Supervisor positions for the 2024 CSF Season! These positions will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival. Details for each position are available in the "Key Responsibilities" section below.
The 2024 CSF season begins May 2024 and responsibilities for these positions will continue until mid-July or mid-August.
Who We Are
For over 60 seasons, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival has delighted audiences with classic theatre under the stars. The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958, the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education, and community engagement.
CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists.
Plays are performed in the newly renovated Roe Green Theatre indoors. The festival’s education programs reach tens of thousands of school children each year through camps, classes and outreach performances that connect them with the continuing tradition and importance of Shakespeare.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Lighting Supervisor:
- Oversee electrics installation, maintenance, and repair for all lighting equipment.
- Engineer all lighting systems.
- Consult with the CSF Production Manager on feasibility of designs.
- Supervise and direct CSF Production Electrician(s).
- Schedule and supervise all lighting load-in, work calls, notes calls, and focus calls.
- Participate in show calls as needed.
- Instruct run crew in show operation and lighting console operation.
- Engineer and install all set / stage lighting equipment (set electrics).
- Collaborate with audio department to ensure efficient system installation across departmental lines.
- Supervise end of season strike and restoration of theatre spaces, returns of rental items, and preparation of off-season storage.
Sound Supervisor:
- Supervise and participate in installation, maintenance & repair of equipment, including all radios and headset systems (both wired and wireless).
- Work with the CSF Production Manager to ensure deadlines are met within budget and time constraints.
- Supervise staff sound technicians.
- Act as front of house mixer for all technical rehearsals and performances.
- Train and supervise college level interns.
- Supervise and assist in load out and strike.
All positions will assist as needed across departmental lines as designated by the CSF Production Manager.
What You Should Know
These are temporary positions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Perform a variety of physical tasks including but not limited to climbing, stooping, pushing, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, and pulling.
- Work at height in locations including but not limited to catwalks, grids, ladders, and genies.
- Perform a variety of physical tasks while wearing safety equipment including body harness, hardhat, and safety glasses.
- Push, pull, lift, and move up to 50 lbs. at times on a repetitive basis.
- Use of manual dexterity in the operation of tools.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT
- Working in a variety of environments including but not limited to construction shops, stages, trap rooms, catwalks and grids, warehouses, exposed loading docks, and outdoors.
- Work environment may be dirty, noisy, in low-light, or in a tight and cramped space.
- Will be exposed, at times, to potentially hazardous materials and equipment.
- Will regularly be required to wear PPE during work activities.
What We Can Offer
- The hourly pay range for these positions is $20.00 to $22.00 per hour.

What We Require
- At least one year of related experience demonstrating the required skills is required for all positions.
- Appropriate education will substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- A valid driver’s license is required for all supervisor positions.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Instructing/mentoring experience.
Lighting Supervisor:
- At least three years professional experience and/or advanced training in theatrical lighting and electrics.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and / or Vectorworks to support the production of clear working drawings for shop staff.
- Experience with all forms of traditional and contemporary lighting practices including but not limited to ETC Sensor dimming systems, ETC Eos family consoles, DMX / networking systems, use and maintenance of conventional and intelligent lighting equipment.
Sound Supervisor:
- At least three years professional experience and/or advanced training in theatrical audio and / or audio engineering.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and / or Vectorworks to support the production of clear working drawings for shop staff.
- Experience with all forms of traditional and contemporary theatrical sound reinforcement practices, including but not limited to Yamaha CL5 and Midas M32 mixing consoles, Shure wireless microphone systems, loudspeakers, and production intercom systems.
