Job Summary

The University of Colorado is hiring for a Production Electrician / Light Board Operator. This position will support the success of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.

For over 60 seasons, the Colorado Shakespeare Festival has delighted audiences with classic theatre under the stars.

The Colorado Shakespeare Festival is a professional theatre company in association with the University of Colorado Boulder. Since 1958, the festival has celebrated and explored Shakespeare and his continuing influence and vitality through productions of superior artistic quality, education and community engagement.

CSF strives to preserve the classics of the past and pursue the classics of the future. Fueled by artistry and scholarship, the festival seeks to expand the cultural richness of the region by inspiring, challenging and cultivating the imagination of audiences and artists.

Plays are performed beneath summer night skies in the historic Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre and in the newly renovated indoor University Theatre.

The festival’s education programs reach tens of thousands of school children each year through camps, classes and outreach performances that connect them with the continuing tradition and importance of Shakespeare.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Participate in electrics install, maintenance, and repair of all lighting equipment.
  • Assist the CSF Lighting Supervisor in engineering all lighting systems.
  • Supervise and direct production lighting technicians and college level interns.
  • Operate lighting console for all performances in assigned theatre.
  • Execute standard operating procedures pertaining to stage lighting practice including but not limited to: dimmer / focus checks, lamps, color, etc.
  • Participate in show calls as needed.
  • Instruct run crew in show operation and lighting console operation.
  • Engineer and install all set / stage lighting equipment (set electrics) in consultation with the CSF Lighting Supervisor. 
  • Collaborate with audio department to ensure efficient system installation across departmental lines.
  • Participate in end of season strike and restoration of theatre spaces, return of rental items, and preparation of off-season storage.

What We Can Offer

  • The hourly rate is $15.00

What We Require

  • One year of related experience demonstrating the required skillsets.
  • Valid driver's license.

  • The ideal candidate will have strong collaboration, communication, and technical skills, and the ability to maintain high quality / standards and a safe and supportive work environment while working on tight timelines.
  • Commitment to an inclusive, diverse, and equitable workplace environment.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Teaching / mentoring experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with DAC / Vectorworks.
  • Experience with all forms of traditional and contemporary lighting practices including but not limited to ETC Sensor sensor dimming systems, ETC Eos family consoles, DMX / networking systems, and use and maintenance of conventional and intelligent lighting equipment.

Essential Services
