Job Summary

The position of Campus Accessibility Education Coordinator in the ADA Compliance unit of Health and Wellness at the University of Colorado Boulder supports the university’s mission to ensure equitable and welcoming access to all visitors to campus, as well as ensuring adherence to Titles I and II of the ADA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act. This position serves as an education and training professional supporting various areas across campus that regularly welcome visitors to campus, including Athletics, CU Presents, University Housing, New Student & Family Programs, CUPD and the Commencement Committee. The schedule is flexible with an expectation that the employee is working 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday, with some evening and weekend responsibilities in conjunction with events. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Routine Annual Trainings (50%)

  • With support from the ADA Coordinator, develop and implement accessibility-focused training for all guest-facing staff.
  • Develop a comprehensive video training module focused on larger campus venues, including Folsom, Event Center, Macky Auditorium, Glenn Miller, etc., to enable better understanding amongst all staff and accurate relay of information to visitors to campus. Topics should include:
    • Accessible Seating Locations
    • Ticketing Procedures
    • Transportation, Parking and Entry Accessibility
    • Services available
  • Collaborate with campus partners on training implementation. Supplement existing staff trainings by doing the following:
    • Join two annual Folsom trainings (one for football and one for stadium concert) and one CUEC training (basketball).
    • Join existing Guest Services trainings for CU Presents.
    • Join existing trainings for CUPD, Event staff, Bus Operators, Commencement Marshalls, and others.
  • Provide a consistent message and format across campus departments/facilities about disability-related accommodations.
  • Support CU events, facilities, parking, ticketing staff and CUPD staff.
  • Support 3rd party vendors with educational information in advance of events.
  • Security/parking, guest relations, ticketing, student clubs/organizations, and volunteers.

Communications and Website Support (35%)

  • Establish consistent venue ADA information across campus event facilities.
  • Review and update ADA Resources pages across campus venues (Folsom, Event Center, Macky, Glenn Miller, etc.).
  • Establish consistency in campus and facility maps.
  • Review and update venue-specific maps to ensure current accessible entries, paths of travel, restrooms, and accessibility resources like lactation spaces.
  • Collaborate to ensure the virtual campus map is up to date with accessible features.
  • Review and update event- and venue-specific parking maps.
  • Develop ADA-focused maps for campus facilities relevant to events, including concerts, sporting events, move-in, and commencement.
  • Develop a pre-event email (modeled after existing “Know Before You Go” format) for each venue to include relevant accessibility information and answers to frequently asked questions.

Consultation to Campus Partners (15%)

  • Help identify units and departments that would benefit from additional training, where new relationships can be built, and identify areas where existing relationships should be strengthened.
  • Serve as a consultation resource for campus partners in preparation for events and as questions arise related to visitor accessibility.
  • Assist staff with questions from visitors in advance of their visits.
  • Help with temporary changes on campus that impact accessibility such as:
    • Road, parking lot or sidewalk closures.
    • Campus construction that could impact pathways or venue access.
  • Be a resource for troubleshooting issues encountered for particular events.

What You Should Know

This full-time position will work in a hybrid modality with various required in-person responsibilities and events that may occur during evenings and weekends. This position is expected to work on campus an average of two days per week with optional remote work for the remaining time. 

What We Can Offer

The salary for this role is $52,000 – $66,000 annually

What We Require

Bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to communication, public speaking, civil rights and/or equitable access, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

What You Will Need

In addition to working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act, best practices for accessibility, and other relevant state, local, and university regulations and policies, the employee should have the following skills:

Customer Service and Inclusive Orientation:

  • Comfortable speaking to large and diverse groups of professionals while utilizing supportive media.
  • Confidence in fielding questions on broad topics and following up with additional specific information when necessary.
  • Ability to respond to visitors and campus partners with an open mind, problem-solving approach, and empathy for the experiences of others.
  • Initiative and awareness to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion goals throughout the entirety of the role, including through language and explanations in trainings and educational conversations with campus partners and on all training platforms.
  • Willingness to continually learn and improve one’s understanding and engagement with diverse viewpoints and experiences.

Software and Organizational Skills:

  • Robust communication, organization, and prioritization abilities.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills to correspond with a variety of employees, supervisors, visitors, vendors, students, and student families.
  • Proficient computer knowledge and skills with MS Office applications, particularly with Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point, and alternative presentation and training software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and assume responsibility for initiating and completing critical functions in the management of compliance programs.

Collaboration/Teamwork/Communication:

  • Cooperate and collaborate with colleagues and campus partners.
  • Support the goals and values of the unit, share responsibilities, and improve team morale.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Two years of training/education experience delivering specific information to professionals.
  • Experience in educating and training professionals regarding Title II of the ADA
