Job Summary
Student Affairs Communications at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Communication & Marketing Manager! This role strategically manages several key areas of the Division of Student Affairs Communication team, and is responsible for creating and implementing numerous communication campaigns and strategies across a variety of internal and external audiences including students, families, faculty and staff. The Manager will provide creative solutions to meet department and division communication needs while maintaining focus on the constituent experience. This role is responsible for the day-to-day management of key communication and marketing campaigns including overseeing content management, content writing and design for print, web, digital, email and social platforms. This role ensures that all content is professional, compelling, accurate, audience-appropriate and conforms to AP and university style guides. This position has the opportunity to supervise professional team members and/or student employees. In emergency situations, this position may be required to support crisis needs on nights and weekends.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.
The work in Student Affairs supports all factors of the student experience, no matter what department a staff member may work in. This includes where students live, eat, make friends, build professional skills and find help if they need it. Many departments provide involvement opportunities, educational resources and support services to help students find their community and build lifelong skills. Student Affairs also has shared services departments that support the work and staff of our student-facing areas, including areas like assessment, business services, financial planning, human resources, marketing communications and information technology (IT).

Student Affairs Communications is dedicated to supporting the Division of Student Affairs with essential communication and marketing needs. We are a resource for the division and its departments to develop and implement communication plans and tactics that educate, engage and positively impact the CU Boulder community. SA Comm works closely with Strategic Relations and other campus partners to ensure integrated campus-wide marketing and communications.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Project Management
- Responsible for the development and execution of communication campaigns to meet division and department goals, including articles, email, print, web, digital engagement, photography and videography.
- Ensures that all media platforms are fully applied and coordinated with larger Division campaigns by working collaboratively with other members of the Student Affairs Communication team.
- Understands the relationship between design, content and user experience and therefore adapts content as needed for each medium.
- Maintains strong brand identity across all communication and marketing materials.
- Responsible for managing and coordinating the distribution of content.
- Responsible for the prioritization of multiple print and digital media projects and requests, including establishing timelines and objectives to ensure client needs are met.
- Reviews and assesses data to improve communications and increase engagement.
- Reports and raises issues to the Assistant/Associate Directors of Communication as needed.
- Responsible for participating in cross-team training and providing coverage when colleagues are out of the office.
Communication Liaison
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with Student Affairs departments and campus partners to assess needs, provides solutions and develops and implements materials consistent with critical initiatives and branding.
- Stays abreast of industry developments to maintain the professional competence, knowledge and skills necessary for the satisfactory performance of all assigned responsibilities including changes in regulations, technology and standard processes.
- Manages communication plans and content calendars to ensure that projects are completed on time and on budget.
Supervision and Management
- Supervises student and/or professional staff on the Student Affairs Communication team.
- Provides leadership and guidance to both professional and student staff to ensure a successful and effective team environment.
- Manages work load, as well as content and creative processes, to ensure that the team is meeting goals, creating accurate and brand appropriate communication, and meeting department expectations and needs.
- Determines daily and long term work assignments for staff based on changing needs of the division and departments.
What You Should Know
This is a hybrid position with necessary in-person hours. Remote work is available depending on the needs of the day/office. Current work modality is 3 days in-person and 2 days remote. Modality is subject to change based on SA policies and departmental needs.
What We Can Offer
The salary for this position is $70,824 annually. Onboarding assistance is available within division guidelines.

What We Require
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, advertising, journalism, English or closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
- 3 years experience managing communication projects, including marketing campaigns, websites or in a copywriting, communications, public relations or related position.
