Job Summary

This part-time, 1% on call, Community Safety Official (CSO) position communicates regularly with building proctors, facilities management, and other campus resources, regarding the security program and must maintain regular liaison with the Police Department and Events and Safety Services, especially regarding any irregular or suspicious activity. This position focuses on providing access control for campus buildings by correlating information from various scheduling sources as well as routinely locking and unlocking buildings when conducting security patrols.

This position determines solutions to the full range of practical problems. Judgement is used on an ongoing basis to select and apply the most appropriate guidelines and adapt them to develop work procedures that accomplish the tasks. Work includes ensuring that equipment is operational, enforcing agency rules and regulations, writing reports, collecting fees, and assisting law enforcement officials as needed. Some assignments will not move beyond this level.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Security Patrols 
  • Unlocks and locks buildings according to route books, maintain a visible and routine security patrols, identify and address any policy or law violations, evaluate and report any security and maintenance issues, and complete required paperwork.
  • In accordance with Facility Use Agreements, certain functions or facilities may require additional or particular tasks to be performed beyond security patrols. 
Maintaining Logs 
  • Completes all required reports in an accurate, professional and timely manner. This includes both routine patrol logs and more lengthy incident reports. 
Duties Beyond Security Patrols
  • In accordance with Facility Use Agreements, certain functions or facilities may require additional or particular tasks to be performed beyond security patrols. 
Other Duties 
  • Positions within the Police Department may be required to work in other areas or for other divisions as needed, as changes in schedule and or duties may vary due to operational needs to unforeseen circumstances. 
  • Work may include assisting with administrative duties (i.e. answering phones, data entry, copying, collating materials, etc.). 
  • Parking and Transportation related duties (directing traffic, placing and moving cones, etc), or be manual labor in nature (i.e. moving boxes to storage, moving traffic barricades, etc.). 
  • Driving a company vehicle may be required, whether within the performance of regular duties, special events, or emergency situations.

  • This is a part-time, 1% on call position.
  • Work hours are as needed, with no regular work schedule, a minimum number of work hours is not guaranteed.

The anticipated salary range starts at $30,324 annually based on 100% appointment.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Extensive customer service experience.
  • Prior experience in law enforcement, military or security fields of work.
  • Experience working within a university setting, which included customer service or security-related responsibilities.
  • Experience working in a team setting.
