Job Summary
The Center for Inclusion and Social Change (CISC) is encouraging applications for the Coordinator for First Generation Scholars Program! The Coordinator for the Office of First-Generation Programs and Enrichment within CISC is responsible for mentoring, advising, and coordinating educational programs for students in the First-Generation Scholars Program. This position will also assist with creating ground-breaking, educational, campus-wide innovative programming that supports an inclusive co-curricular environment. In addition, the position will work collaboratively with the campus community in addressing issues related to historically underrepresented and/or underserved students. Some weekend and evening hours are required. The position reports to the Associate Director for CISC and First-Generation Programs and Enrichment.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
First-Generation Scholar Program Coordination:
- Assist in the development and maintenance of the First-Generation workshop curriculum and scholar roster.
- Work closely with the Associate Director and the Scholarships Office on all aspects of the First-Generation Scholarship process.
- Assist and support comprehensive programs and services to enhance the academic and social success of First-Generation Scholars with a focus on activities related to engagement and retention.
- Actively strive to foster and maintain a workplace climate that is supportive of employees and respectful of differences, as well as to create a learning environment for students that encourages personal development, self-reflection, and academic success.
- Assist in creating and implementing outcome-based innovative transformative programs that invite all students to communicate across lines of race, ethnicity, sex, religion, gender, class, sexual orientation, and other social identities.
- Assist in ongoing programs and services for traditionally underserved students, first-generation, low socio-economic status, particularly those from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds, to promote academic and personal growth and success.
First-Generation Scholar Student Support:
- Support and advise all students in the First-Generation Scholars Program, specifically during their first year of programming requirements.
- Focus on the first-year curriculum with the transition to a scholar's second year.
- Refer scholars to appropriate campus resources areas for support, as needed (i.e. Student Academic Success Center, Center for Student Involvement, Basic Needs Center, etc.).
- Meet one-on-one with all first-year First-Generation Scholars in the spring semester to support students transitioning from their first to second year.
- Create reflective spaces for scholars to celebrate their first-generation identity.
- Operate the cohort through a mentorship framework.
Campus-Wide Programming, Development, & Coordination:
- Assist with campus-wide first-generation initiatives such as First-Gen Fridays and National First-Generation College Celebration Day.
- Assist the Associate Director with first-generation presentations, conferences, retreats, and workshops.
- Assist and support CISC-wide and campus conferences and programs.
- Assist with intercultural student leadership training/conference programs that emphasize diversity, equity, and inclusion and are in collaboration with other departments, staff, and faculty (i.e. Men of Excellence).
- Cultivate and strengthen relationships with colleagues across divisions.
- Assist with the collaboration of faculty and staff in the broad-based promotion of inclusion, social change, and campus diversity via campus-wide programming and support for first-generation and underrepresented students.
Operations and Fiscal Responsibility:
- Provide timely/pertinent budgetary information to the supervisor as necessary throughout the year.
- Process the university's fiscal paperwork promptly and accurately.
- Supervise student staff supporting the First-Generation program.
- Routinely assess the necessity of various expenditures, including but not limited to programming activities, student recognition, and professional development/training.
- Meet due dates for all requests for reports, data, publications, and budgets.
- Ensure the responsible planning and expenditure of fiscal resources in a manner consistent with good fiduciary responsibility.

The starting salary for this position is $62,000-$64,000 annually. Onboarding assistance may be available per Student Affairs divisional guidelines.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or other related field and three years of post-bachelor experience with campus-wide programming and advising first-generation and/or underrepresented students.
- Proven experience in project management and/or student program planning.
- Experience developing and facilitating diversity and inclusion presentations and student success workshops.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.

- Ability to engage, teach, and energize various constituent groups.
- Knowledge of higher education leadership and administration, structure and governance, and factors that affect decision-making at a research institution.
- Understanding of nationally recognized practices, trends, and procedures for first-generation and underrepresented students.
- Capacity to work effectively with persons from diverse backgrounds to promote an inclusive campus and community culture.
- Listen and communicate clearly in written and verbal formats.
- Set priorities in a complex environment and represent the institution’s perspective to external entities.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field, and a minimum of 2 years of relevant full-time professional experience in post-secondary education administration, including professional experience in program planning, assessment, and decision-making.
- Leadership experience in retention program development and diversity programming/education.
- Demonstrated experience in understanding issues and trends in higher education programs that focus on the retention needs of low-income first-generation, historically underrepresented, marginalized, and/or underserved college students.
- Demonstrated experience with providing high-impact and culturally engaging educational programs.
