Job Summary
The University of Colorado Boulder's Recreation Center is currently accepting applications for a Team Sports Coordinator! This position is responsible for the collaborative leadership and support of the comprehensive Team Sports program, with a primary area of focus on Intramural Sports and limited support of Sport Clubs. Work performed may include planning strategically, implementing risk management strategies, fiscal oversight, developing policies and procedures, and staff hiring, training and development. The Team Sports Coordinator also works with appropriate internal and external partners while providing program oversight to ensure compliance and operational success.

The Division of Student Affairs consists of 30 departments that provide student support and services dedicated to helping students become successful, curious, competent individuals during their time at CU Boulder.

CU Boulder Recreation Services is a welcoming, valued, campus resource that promotes healthy lifestyles through high-quality, accessible, facilities and experiences. This student-fee-funded unit features a student-led CUSG Recreation Board and a diverse team of professional experts to help meet evolving recreational needs and support student engagement and success. Recreation Services leads all aspects of the LEED Platinum main campus Student Rec Center, a building with over 300,000 square feet of recreation and fitness activity space, as well as a satellite recreation center at Williams Village, outdoor basketball courts, a challenge ropes course, and eight turf and grass fields around campus. Throughout these facilities, members of the CU community can engage with a variety of programs that include ice skating, indoor rock climbing, intramural and club sports, yoga, aquatics and so much more.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Job Duties with Percentage Weights: Intramural Sports Administration
- Support the Assistant Director of Team Sports in the planning, organization, scheduling, administration, and team/participant registration process using provided technology, for producing a comprehensive intramural program including leagues, tournaments, and special events.
- Track and review all received intramural sports event results to ensure accuracy and assist with program assessment.
- Use university procedural knowledge as well as area expertise to address and resolve pertinent issues primarily independently. Communicate resolutions clearly with appropriate parties.
- Work closely with Recreation events and facilities staff in coordinating all facets of Intramural Sports events.
- Assist in the formation, review, and enforcement of all policies and procedures relating to Intramurals, including annual revisions of all sport rules and regulations as well as the Intramural Sports Participant Handbook.
Staff Leadership, Supervision, Oversight
- Directly supervise 60+ intramural sports officials and 20+ team sports supervisors.
- Responsible for hiring, onboarding, and ensuring pay for all student employees in collaboration with Student Life Employee Experience.
- Offer continued oversight of employee status and address any issues arising. Develop and implement ongoing training and evaluation processes for Intramural staff.
- Supervise and evaluate intramural events while in progress and during hours of competition to provide mentorship to involved staff.
- Provide leadership for student staff through continuing education to enhance skills via training and extramural tournaments.
Fiscal Management
- Responsible for supporting the fiscal operations of the Intramural Sports program.
- Support the Assistant Director of Team Sports with budget planning, justification, and management, including the purchase and inventory of equipment used in intramural programs.
- Assist in the development and administration of budget for Intramural Sports.
Risk Management/Compliance
- Support the execution of risk management strategies to ensure a safe, rewarding student experience.
- Ensure equipment and facilities are safe and suitable for use.
- Provide on-site event management and logistical assistance for Team Sports’ Events.
Other
- Ability to manage ambiguous situations confidently while working independently with limited oversight.
- Work collaboratively with both internal and external program areas and departments to ensure successful programming.
- Work collaboratively with University Marketing & Communications to create, manage, and implement any media and promotional needs. This will include social media posts and reports, webpage edits, promotional fliers, etc.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, in-service education sessions, and other divisional or departmental meetings.
- Participate in other departmental or divisional initiatives, programs, and committees as required.
- Participate in the development of ideas and suggestions for the Recreation Services program and facility improvements.
- Ensure that the Recreation Center's facilities, equipment, and programs are meeting or exceeding the standards of the department’s quality by using and attending its offerings.
- Assist with additional initiatives, assignments, and special projects as needed.
- Engage in annual diversity and inclusion training.
Summer Event Management
- Support summer event management responsibilities with department event and operations staff.
- Meet and greet customers for special events, meetings, competitions, and summer camps.
- Provide excellent communication and dissemination of information to event patrons and leads.
- Supervise facility operations for assigned events.
- Manage set-up and tear-down of equipment used for special events.
- Provide excellent customer service to both internal and external constituents to satisfy service expectations.
What You Should Know
This position operates University vehicles and requires active Driver's License in good standing.

What We Require
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- 1 year of experience in Recreational Sports programming. Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Ability to obtain First Aid certification within three months of hire.
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of processes and standards in collegiate recreation.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or dedication to do so as a member of the CU community.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent oral/written communication skills, people skills, and ability to work collaboratively.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Masters Degree from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience supervising employees, interns, and /or volunteer personnel in a recreation setting.
- One to two years of experience making purchases and reconciling accounts.
- Experience supervising and training student officials.
- Officiating experience in organized or recreational sports setting.
- 2 years Graduate Assistant experience may substitute 1-year full-time experience.
- Demonstrated experience in personnel management and ability to motivate students.
