Job Summary

Residence Life at CU Boulder encourages applications for the Coordinator of Leadership and Cultural Engagement position! This is a live-out, professional-exempt, position responsible for providing oversight for residence life student leadership development, community engagement, and sustainability initiatives within an undergraduate residential community of over 8,000 students. Under the direction of the Assistant Director for Leadership Engagement, and with the support of a fellow coordinator, the Coordinator serves as one of the primary advisor to the Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), and EcoReps, and supports the development and engagement of student leaders across multiple organizations. This position plays a key role in fostering inclusive, identity-affirming residential communities by supporting identity-based Living Learning Communities (LLCs), supervising identity LLC Peer Mentors, and coordinating cultural and civic engagement programs. The Coordinator also leads efforts to integrate sustainability education into the residential experience and manages large-scale departmental programming, including welcome events, leadership training, and recognition ceremonies. Through collaboration with students, staff, and campus partners, this position helps cultivate a dynamic and supportive environment that promotes leadership, belonging, and connection in the residence halls.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Student Leadership

  • Serve as one of two advisors to residential student organizations, including the Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH), and EcoReps.
  • Advise student leaders and members of the Board of Directors (e.g., RHA, NRHH, EcoReps), including holding regular one-on-one meetings with executive members.
  • Attend and support all executive and general body meetings for assigned student organizations; participate in additional advocacy or leadership meetings as needed.
  • Coordinate and advise student delegations attending local, regional, and national conferences; including preparation, transportation, onsite advising, and post-conference debriefing.
  • Provide training for residence life staff on effective advising strategies for student organizations.
  • Coordinate training and development for student leaders.
  • Serve as a resource to community council advisors, providing guidance on elections, programming, and organizational management.
  • Act as a Community Council advisor in the event of a Hall Director vacancy.
  • Support the use of student engagement software platforms for student organizations.
  • Identify and implement standard processes for fostering inclusive and equitable engagement in residence life leadership opportunities.
  • Advocate for the needs of student leaders to departmental and campus leadership.

Community & Connection Initiatives

  • Support student-success initiatives for residents living in the identity-based Living Learning Communities, including Lucile B. Buchanan for Black students and allies, Por La Cultura for Multicultural and Latinx students and allies, Spectrum for LGBTQIA+ students and allies, and Native and Indigenous Peoples for Native and Indigenous students and allies.
  • Coordinate the exchange of ideas across multiple Living Learning Communities.
  • Supervise identity-based Living Learning Community (LLC) Peer Mentors.
  • Partner with LLC advisors, Hall Directors, and Center for Cultural Connections & Community staff to coordinate and enhance the LLC student experience.
  • Oversee recruitment efforts for identity-based LLCs.
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with campus departments that support student connection, including the Center for Cultural Connections & Community.
  • Foster an environment where every student can find community, make meaningful connections with others, and feel supported and advocated for, regardless of their identity, background, or experiences.
  • Consult with the Residential Experience Committee to implement inclusive community-building programs in the residence halls.
  • Support the Assistant Director for Leadership Engagement in the implementation of training and development initiatives that prepare Residence Life professional staff and student leaders to create meaningful connections for all residents.

Event Planning & Execution

  • Oversee and support assigned large-scale programmatic efforts, including residence hall Fall & Spring Welcome programming, Residence Life Student Leadership Banquet, Homecoming, Halloween, Saint Patrick's Day, Campus Late Night programming, and student organization-hosted events.
  • Oversee assigned pre-arrival programs, including Stampede Leadership Camp, EcoReps, and identity LLC experiences.
  • Coordinate with other Residential Engagement staff to plan and implement residential neighborhood-wide programming initiatives.
  • Develop and support campus and departmental civic-engagement initiatives, including voter registration campaigns.
  • Assist with orientation and campus admissions events.
  • Serve as a liaison with Student Life Communications for the development of marketing campaigns for event involvement & participation in student leadership programs.

Sustainability Education

  • Coordinate initiatives that facilitate student energy reduction within their residence hall environments.
  • Support the development and implementation of sustainability-focused educational programming and initiatives within the Residential Experience Model.
  • Collaborate with campus sustainability partners, including the Environmental Center and Service Learning & Impact in Community Engagement, to connect students with programs such as Sustainable Buffs, Climate Justice Leadership, CU in the Community, and SkoServe.
  • Foster collaboration between EcoReps and the Environmental Center to expand sustainability education and programs in the residence halls.

Administration & Financial Management

  • Follow all federal, state, university, and departmental budget and contracting procedures.
  • Track equipment and maintain tidiness of Student Leader offices and storage rooms.
  • Allocate budgets and oversee expenditures for student leadership, sustainability, and identity-based LLC programming.
  • Participate in departmental and divisional committees to support strategic goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for RHA-related contracts and services
  • Perform other managerial functions and responsibilities as assigned.

Emergency Response

  • Support residents and organizational members in developing skills to navigate challenging personal situations.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority, assisting in reporting incident information as needed.
  • Provide direct support during crisis situations, including on-site consultation and intervention.
  • Understand and apply Residence Life emergency protocols to ensure a timely and effective response.

What You Should Know

This position is hybrid and requires a minimum of 4 days on campus during the academic year.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary for this position is $55,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field from an accredited college or university.
  • 1+ year of program management, program development, and program implementation experience.
  • 1+ year of professional leadership experience in an educational field or related field, or 2+ years in a graduate assistantship with similar experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

  • Operational knowledge of technology, computer applications, and budgeting.
  • Proven strong communication skills, including interpersonal communications, writing, and public speaking, and presentations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative collegial working relationships.
  • Understanding of how intersectionality impacts community formation.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Master's degree in higher education administration or a related field.
  • Experience working in education, specifically higher education setting.
  • Proven experience in:
    • Addressing complex community issues around identity.
    • Managing sustainability programs & initiatives.
    • Organizing and facilitating student development programs and operational responsibilities, including large-scale events.
    • The ability to interpret and enact campus policies.
    • Mentoring and supervising student leaders.
