The Costume Shop/Wardrobe Assistant is a key member of the Company’s Costume Shop team reporting to the Costume Coordinator. This position is required to complete costume fittings and alterations and to dress artists and maintain costumes during performances.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Assure day-to-day activities run smoothly in costume shop by assisting Coordinator with shop management tasks.
- Prepare and organize base layers, shoes, and other stock items for fittings.
- Take detailed notes during fittings for alterations and creation of run paperwork; detail each item for each artist.
- Assist with the care and proper maintenance of all costumes, shoes, undergarments, hats and costume related personal props before, during and after each production; assure all items are accounted for.
- Create the dressing area by setting up and tearing down privacy areas in venue changing rooms.
- Ensure accurate labeling, hanging, storage and preset of all costume pieces.
- Assist in collecting garments, ensuring that laundry is done on a regular basis between performances.
- Assist in ensuring costumes are properly pressed or steamed prior to each performance.
- Assist the Wardrobe Supervisor with regular inventory and inspection of all costumes and identify needed costume repairs.
- Assist artists with dressing and quick changes.
- If a rental package is used, assist with recording all rental pieces during unpacking and repacking.
What You Should Know
This position is 1% on-call for the College of Music in the costumes shop. Can exceed full time some weeks, 0 hours others. Flexibility in scheduling is necessary because working some weekends and evenings will be required.
This position is in-person.

What We Require
- A combination of related education and/or relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to two (2) years.
- Must be a current Colorado resident.
What You Will Need
- Working knowledge of all aspects of the theatre process – production and technical, as well as performance.
- Excellent communication skills –oral, visual, written.
- Excellent eye/hand coordination.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work productively under severe time pressures and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work quietly and respectfully around artists, designers, directors and other production personnel.
- Working knowledge of clothing, sewing and theatrical practices.
- Must be available to work performance evenings and weekends.
- Able to lift 35 to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation.
- Able to stand for long periods of time.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Costume construction knowledge and experience.
- Theatrical Wardrobe experience.
- Bachelor 's degree in Costume Design, Opera, Theatre, Musical Theatre or other related field.
- Specific knowledge of opera, theater or classical music.
