Job Summary

Facilities Management at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Custodial Supervisor! This position assigns cleaning tasks to custodial staff and compiles and completes time sheets in AiM. The role also orders and distributes cleaning supplies, materials and equipment, and responds to complaints about and requests for cleaning services by building users. In addition, the role may be responsible for cleaning and sanitizing facilities for the students, staff, faculty and customers of campus.

Who We Are

Facilities Management (FM) is responsible for the overall physical development and maintenance of the campus. The mission of the department is to provide a safe physical environment that promotes the advancement and transfer of knowledge.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Team Cleaning Program: rotate through different specialist positions. Some staff may be on a team of 1 performing all specialist duties. Perform area substitution duties in vacant areas or to cover for employees on leave and perform emergency clean up duties as needed. Wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Plan, assign, coordinate, inspect and review custodial routine cleaning activities, according to assigned schedules and floor plans. Adjust assignments to accommodate absences. Coordinate and carry out recycling programs in campus buildings. Coordinate cleaning building entry ways and snow removal activities. Respond to emergencies when they occur.
  • Engage employees in safety culture to ensure adherence to standard processes regarding hazard controls and written policies and procedures, and ensuring organizational representation in the Safety Committee.
  • Participate in employee safety observation program by performing observations or manager approved alternative. Perform initial employee accident, incident, and occupational illness investigation.
  • Ensure safety training is completed. Notice safety hazards and act promptly to alleviate problems. Report safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations to Safety Officer. Make suggestions on how to improve safety.
  • Prepare and review with employees yearly performance management plans. Conduct mentoring sessions with employees. Prepare ongoing continued education and training opportunities for employees. Advise employees of current policies, procedures and problems and keep employees updated on departmental initiatives. Conduct safety and operational training with custodial staff.
  • Prepare documentation for verbal, corrective and/or disciplinary actions, and recommend type of action.
  • Record employee time in AiM and print employee timesheet reports. Schedule and plan ahead for employee time-off.
  • Distribute, collect, and order keys for custodians.
  • Review and recommend equipment and materials purchases. Schedule equipment for repairs. Review, order, and distribute supplies and materials for custodians and building users. Provide updated information regarding room use type and changes in floor surface.
  • Meet with building users and maintenance personnel regarding custodial activities and building repairs.
  • Review with manager team activities status. Prepare and conduct program presentations to management.

What You Should Know

  • The anticipated work schedule is 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm Monday through Thursday, and 1:30 pm to 10:00 pm on Friday. This position needs to attend biweekly supervisor meetings on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. This position may be required to work alternate shifts; for example, 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM or 2:00 PM - 12:30 AM Tuesday through Saturday.
  • This position is eligible for our Facilities Management Employee Referral Program.

What We Can Offer

  • The annual salary range for this role is $49,848 - $54,960.
  • If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

What We Require

  • Must be a Colorado resident to apply and possess a valid Colorado driver's license.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience.

What You Will Need

  • Strong computer skills (email, outlook/teams calendar, basic Office programs such as Word, Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Supervisory experience (manager, supervisor or lead).
  • Custodial experience within a school or higher ed environment.
