Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder for the campus in Boulder, CO seeks a Custodian II to lead and assist the University Memorial Center (UMC). Housekeeping crew in the daily cleaning and maintenance operations of the UMC; trains new employees on established cleaning procedures and processes, and provides support to the UMC and C.U. Student Government zero waste goals by ensuring the proper separation of recycled and compostable content from the waste streams; maintain and lead crews in the cleaning of all public areas and offices; sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, empty waste receptacles, dust and wash windows. Determine order in which areas need to be cleaned and the order of cleaning procedures; lead staff in daily cleaning of the restrooms throughout the UMC (30%), which includes cleaning and sanitizing restroom fixtures; restocking bathroom dispensers; and cleaning restroom walls; determine staff assignments for cleaning restrooms and the order in which restrooms will be cleaned; lead and assist staff with annual and semiannual cleaning and maintenance projects; strip, seal and wax hard floors, and deep clean carpets; assist the UMC Setup and AV Team with event setups; lead snow removal and determine when snow removal is needed, and when and where to apply chemical snowmelt products; train new employees on established cleaning procedures and processes; train existing staff when new procedures are developed or new equipment is procured; retrain staff if needed; determine when training has been completed, and provide input in developing new cleaning and maintenance procedures and recommends new equipment purchases.

What We Require

  • 12 months of experience in university setting as Lead Custodian or in related occupation.
  • English proficiency.
  • Demonstrated practice in the proper handling of waste materials to ensure recycled and compostable materials are diverted from landfill waste. 
  • Completed Blood Born Pathogen Training.
  • Completed a certified asbestos awareness training.
  • Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
  • Ability to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, handle, and talk to and communicate with individuals in a tactful manner. 
  • Ability to coordinate operations.
