Job Summary

CU Boulder encourages applications for a DEI Employee Engagement Manager! With the support and under the direction of the assistant vice chancellor for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, this position is responsible for growing, developing, coordinating, and assessing affinity groups focused on advancing an inclusive climate—and in consideration of intersectionality. These efforts will be dedicated to the retention of employees with minoritized identities (including people with disabilities, LGBTQIA+, women-identified, and employees of color).

This is a position focused on the intersection of DEI and employees’ attachment to the university (e.g., dedication to, feelings about, emotional attachment to, satisfaction with; and informed by research). As such, the role supports:
  • Creating mechanisms and programs for employees to connect with the campus with a focus on advancing DEI
  • Creating mechanisms and programs for employees to connect with other employees with a focus on advancing DEI
  • Advising or collaborating with units on how to improve employee engagement with a focus on advancing DEI
  • Assessing programs or initiatives designed to increase employee engagement and belonging

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Create and maintain guidelines for—and coach affinity group leaders in the execution of—establishing charters and leadership structures; selecting executive sponsors; creating mission statements, goals, and/or annual plans; managing membership; and collaborating with internal partners. Conduct ongoing research and benchmarking to keep pace with current trends and practices in the use of employee resource groups in higher education.
  • Provide operational guidance to affinity group leaders to ensure alignment of network activities with campus goals, the Inclusion, Diversity, and Excellence in Academics (IDEA) Plan, and the University's strategic plan. Facilitate collaboration among affinity groups to share standard methodologies and ideas. Build and leverage relationships with other internal diversity, equity, and inclusion groups.
  • With a focus on employee engagement, collaborate and confer with affinity group leaders and other University partners in the promotion of diversity and inclusion. Develop relationships with executive sponsors and other key partners. Partner with and support as appropriate colleagues in other units.
  • Collaborate with Strategic Relations and Communications and other University partners to establish marketing and outreach plans for each affinity group. Respond to inquiries; develop content and manage internal communication platforms to increase awareness, boost participation, and share information.
  • Create and implement an assessment plan for each affinity group.
  • With oversight, manage any budget or expenses for affinity groups.

What You Should Know

  • Traditional business hours with rare project work evenings and weekends.

What We Can Offer

  • Annual Salary Range is: $70,000- $85,000. Relocation assistance available.
  • There is a possibility for the work to be performed in a hybrid format.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject area.
  • Three (3) or more years of related work experience, including experience in training, employee engagement, or a related area.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

  • Proven success as a collaborator and relationship builder, with strong interpersonal skills and ability to build coalitions and collaborative working relationships with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups, including senior executives, to achieve results
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and success in identifying promising practices for advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, and command of modern DEI concepts and application to employee retention in higher education (e.g., inclusive talent acquisition, community building, employee engagement)

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Master’s degree.
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to provide oversight for assessments related to campus climate, diversity, and inclusion.
