Job Summary

The Environmental Center welcomes applications for a Digital Engagement Projects Manager. This position is a communications professional who will support the effort to communicate the impact and reach of Environmental Center programs and partnerships on campus, in the community and across the nation. Responsibilities involve: coordination, collection, writing, editing, and distributing stories and information. The Project Manager will manage internal department communication channels including social media, blog, monthly and weekly newsletters, and website. They will also act as a liaison with Student Affairs and University Strategic Relations and Media departments to integrate with university communications systems and utilize University standards. They will be responsible for the training and coordination of student employees to facilitate student voice and to build student experience in communications skills. As a part of the Division of Student Affairs, this position will work collaboratively with the Student Affairs communications team to coordinate on the campus and Student Affairs Division communication strategy.

Our goal is to leverage our communications outlets to maximize our ability to foster and further our campus culture of sustainability that norms making large and small sustainability-influences personal choices among students and staff - from choosing to recycle to choosing a career. This culture engages students, enhances learning among all students, and increases campus resiliency and sustainability.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Manage Internal Communications and Digital Engagement Projects
  • Develop and maintain Environmental Center communications content calendar to represent needs of all department initiatives and programs. 
  • Manage internal communications channels, including social media, weekly and monthly EC newsletters. 
  • Coordinate communications for EC-sponsored events. Manage postings to calendars and social media.  
  • Manage assignments with a student team of communications assistants and professional staff program managers
  • Manage EC web page, including managing content and serving as site administrator. 
  • Manage video projects utilized for podcasts and social media.
  • Coordinate graphic and multimedia needs for EC programs and department-wide materials. 
  • Contribute to and coordinate with partners for content updates to campus sustainability web portal page.
Manage App-based Digital Engagement
  • Coordinate with campus stakeholders for PIPs (Positive Impact Points) Rewards earn opportunities and use of marketing materials. 
  • Interface with PIPs Rewards app vendor on earn opportunities and to distribute rewards points.
  • Manage communications to PIPs Rewards users.
  • Liaison and coordinate communication with SA Communications team. 
Coordination, Collaboration, and Best Practices
  • Liaison with SA Comm team and other sustainability partners to identify, plan and deliver content for campus channels. 
  • Foster a spirit of teamwork and creative collaboration among EC student and professional staff and partner department staff that allows for a productive work environment. 
  • Provide guidance to student communications team of 3-5 paid student positions.
  • Remain knowledgeable of industry developments in communications and digital engagement to maintain professional competence, knowledge, and skills, including changes in technology and best practices; and of best practices and innovations in how to effectively communicate sustainability. Impart this knowledge for EC strategic planning and to program staff to improve effectiveness of programs.

The anticipated start date for this position is August 5, 2019.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $48,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a Communications, Marketing, Sustainability, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience managing staff, students or volunteers in a team environment.

What You Will Need

  • Skills in facilitating collaborative work and project management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, presentation building, public speaking, writing, editing and proofreading skills.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in the sustainability field.
  • Skills in facilitating collaborative work and project management.
  • Advanced experience with CSS, HTML, and/or content management systems, especially Drupal.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Experience managing communications for an organization.
  • Experience working in a higher education or non-profit environment.
