Job Summary

The Research and Innovation Office is looking to hire a collaborative and energetic leader as Director of the Innovation & Entrepreneurship (I&E) Initiative. This position will support education, research, scholarship, and creative activity across the CU Boulder campus by creating a culture of entrepreneurial thinking among students, faculty, staff and campus leadership.
 
The Director should combine a strategic understanding of higher education with experience in the entrepreneurship community for the purpose of creating a best-in-class organization. This position will report to the Vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation.
 
The Director is responsible for the oversight of the I&E Program including education initiatives, budget oversight, staff oversight, and other related objectives. Responsibilities will include engaging the entrepreneurial community, engaging with mentors/advisors to support students and faculty, building an international brand in entrepreneurship, and developing long-term financial sustainability and growth. The position also has responsibilities for the creation and execution of a well-developed strategy advancing innovation and opportunities for practicing innovation at CU Boulder. The Director will also bring together I&E activities with the activities of the Director of the Commercialization Academy and the Commercialization Net Liaison.

The University of Colorado Boulder launched a campus-wide innovation and entrepreneurship initiative in the Fall of 2016. In less than three years, the campus has come together and achieved significant milestones and a cross-campus entrepreneurial mindset. The Research and Innovation Office is looking to hire an events coordinator for the Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Strategic Leadership 
  • Demonstrate understanding of the institution and appreciation for the academy.
  • Responsible for working with faculty, staff and campus leadership across campus to support a culture of entrepreneurial thinking across campus and supporting design thinking and problem solving.
  • Develop systems and structures to coordinate communications and strategy across stakeholders.
  • Support the development of marketing, social media, event tools, and aligned branding for campus communication channels.
  • Connect opportunities on and off campus into meaningful innovation and entrepreneurship experiences and activities.
Program Management 
  • Create, support, and coordinate I&E programs, workshops, and spaces, including but not limited to: New Venture Challenge, Global Entrepreneurs in Residence, StartupTree, Get Seed Funding, the Entrepreneurial Space at the Village Center, and various panels, speakers, workshops, and bootcamps.
  • Supervise Global Entrepreneurs in Residence, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Initiative program team members, and the student innovation action team.
  • Facilitate sessions with campus partners to build capacity and shift culture on campus.
  • Maintain insight into activities and events in order to cross-pollinate and connect the dots across campus and with community partners.
  • Supervise I&E Program Manager, Events Coordinator, and student employees.

What We Require

  • Master’s degree (or higher).
  • At least 8-10 years of professional experience with an entrepreneurial, innovative and/or design focus.

What You Will Need

  • Demonstrated strategic planning & execution experience.
  • Executive level oral and written communication skills.
  • Evidence of high-social skills and emotional intelligence when interacting with key constituencies including executives, faculty and staff.
  • Proven success working within higher education and with entrepreneurial programs. 
  • Knowledge of approaches and capabilities for developing workshops and tool-kits for faculty and staff to use entrepreneurial approaches to challenges within the university context.


What We Would Like You To Have

  • Terminal degree in a business, engineering, law discipline, or education.
  • Knowledgeable in, and experienced with, the key trends in higher education entrepreneurship, Innovation and design efforts both in and outside the classroom.
