Job Summary

The Director of Compliance and Integrity plays a pivotal role in risk reduction for the Division of Student Affairs by interpreting university policy and governmental regulations and determining their relevance to divisional activities. This role uses their understanding to develop division-specific guidelines, protocol and training resources to ensure that external policies and regulations are applied in a consistent manner across the division. The Director is an expert on organizational compliance and key advisor to the Vice Chancellor’s Cabinet and Executive Council.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Lead Student Affairs Compliance & Internal Control Activities
  • Develop and implement division-wide policies, protocol, and approval mechanisms to ensure that activities across the division are done in accordance with campus, system, local, state and federal requirements.
  • Develop process maps, document procedures, and establish internal controls to ensure consistency in policy application across the division.
  • Document “as is” processes and procedures used by departments to address common business needs and identify best practices and standardized protocol for adoption division-wide.
  • Provide protocol for responding to any regulatory investigation or audit and manage divisional response efforts. 
  • Oversee the review and approval process for revenue and zero-dollar contracts and MOUs division-wide.

Training & Outreach
  • Work closely with department directors to help them identify and manage compliance concerns in their areas.
  • Assist directors in establishing department-specific compliance plans to manage risk.
  • Help directors to develop training and outreach plans as well as tools and resources to enable their staff to identify, understand and comply with relevant legal, regulatory and policy constraints that apply to the work being done by that unit (e.g. FERPA, UBIT, Clery Act, GAAP, etc.).

Support and Advise Student Affairs Leadership  
  • Perform ongoing and ad hoc investigative and consultative duties to support Student Affairs’ leadership’s efforts to reduce the risk profile for Student Affairs and to ensure divisional activities are conducted in accordance with the values and priorities of campus and division leaders.
  • Keep division leadership apprised of how any changes in policies, regulations and laws could impact divisional activities.
  • Ensure that Student Affairs leadership is made aware of risk and compliance concerns in the division and recommend measures to address these concerns.
  • Work with Cabinet & Executive Council to establish division-wide guidance on allowable expenses (e.g. austerity around cell phone issuance, recognition programs, provision of attire, Represent Student Affairs on the campus’ Ethics & Compliance Working Group).

What We Can Offer

Anticipated starting salary for this position is $90,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and six years' related professional experience or Juris Doctorate/Masters degree from an accredited college or university and three years' related professional experience.
  • Two years of progressively responsible management experience within higher education.
  • Two years of successful supervisory experience of professional staff.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • At least five years of successful experience in planning, developing and implementing complex strategic goals and program initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret/apply state laws and policy set by the University of Colorado Board of Regents.
  • Experience collaborating with students and student leadership.
