Job Summary

The University of Colorado encourages applications for the Director of Cross Country and Track and Field! This position is responsible for the management and administration of all activities related to the cross country and track and field programs and exercises direct supervision of recruiting, training, and coaching student-athletes and administrative leadership and assistance to the cross county/track & field coaches and staff. 

The purpose of this position is to promote the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program. This shall include adhering to the guiding principles, policies and procedures of the Athletics Department as well as the University, Big 12 Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Athlete Development: 
  • The Director of Cross Country and Track is responsible for developing and implementing an annual plan to develop athletes individually and as a team to complete for Big12 and NCAA Championships. This includes: conditioning plan, daily practicing planning, and an off season plan. 
Recruitment: 
  • The Director of Cross Country and Track is responsible for recruiting high level prospects, capable of completing for and winning championship in the Big 12 Conference as well as completing academically at the University. The Director of Cross Country and Track is responsible for identify and creating a database of prospect, implementing a recruiting strategy with assistant coaches, and fully utilizing NCAA identified contact and evaluation dates. The head coach is expected to develop and maintain especially strong relationships with Colorado high school and club coaches, as well as running contacts in the Big12 footprint. 
Promotion: 
  • The Director of Cross Country and Track will be responsible for promotional, media and outreach activities as deemed appropriate and necessary for the development of the program; and will be responsible for always presenting the Cross Country and Track programs in a positive manner to the public, the University community, the team, and potential recruits. 
Administrative Duties: 
  • The Director of Cross Country and Track will be responsible for administrative tasks including, but not limited to: budgeting and expense control, NCAA Compliance, direct oversight of immediate cross country and track and field staff including adherence by the staff to all NCAA and Big12 rules and regulations.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range is $116,000 - $175,000 annually.

    • Relocation is available within department guidelines.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • 5 years experience coaching and or/professional running.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to effectively organize, communicate, and coordinate all cross country and track and field program matters with others, particularly with the athletic administration, athletic sponsors and supporters, and student-athletes. 
  • Ability to effectively counsel student-athletes on requirements for personal conduct, academic performance, and athletic participation including good sportsmanship. 
  • Ability to effectively teach fundamentals and strategies during practice sessions and to successfully coach meets. 
  • Ability to direct the maintenance of accurate records and reports, particularly athletic budget, eligibility, compliance, and academic items.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Coaching at the Division I level.
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations.
  • Master's degree.
  • Proven experience with a winning track record and successful athlete development in sport and academically.
  • Demonstrated experience successfully recruiting and retaining highly skilled student-athletes for the program.
  • Proven experience and record of following NCAA regulations and policies.
  • Prior experience working with CU Boulder Athletics.
