Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder"s Leeds School of Business encourages applications for a Discovery Officer and Donor Relations Coordinator! This position will cultivate personal relationships with alumni and donors who have demonstrated interest in supporting the institution but are not at the major gift level yet. They will also support stewardship of existing major donors. Interaction with alumni and donors will focus on both in person and virtual individualized meetings/calls to further personal ownership and pride in the role of philanthropy for Leeds’ continued success.

The Discovery Officer and Donor Relations Coordinator will cultivate existing and new donor relationships with leadership's annual and major gift prospects to sustain, grow donor engagement and support for the University. Develop and manage a portfolio of 75 prospects capable of making gifts of $5,000 or more. 

Goals will be set based on core metrics including, personal visits, proposals, moves, and assists to be set with and approved by management. This role will conduct in-state travel to meet with prospective donors and utilize remote technology to connect with prospective donors out of state. Craft meaningful stewardship communication for interest areas for this role and for other development officers. Write cohesive stewardship reports for major donor commitments as identified by leadership team and Donor Relations Program Manager. Represent the Leeds School at events in order to support the University and cultivate donors.

Leeds School of Business is also hiring a Student and Recent Alumni Engagement/Philanthropy Coordinator. This role is very similar but focuses on Engagement of our students and new alumni. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Discovery Officer Focus
  • Contact Dean’s Society donors and prospects who live outside of the typical travel zone for development officers.
  • Past donors of a certain level.
  • Alumni with a specified wealth indicators.
  • Potential focus on Colorado metro area for Dean’s Society solicitations at a new graduate level.
  • Contact all first-time donors with a personalized narrative from perspective of recent grad; invitation for a phone call to connect about their reason for giving and to share the impact of their generosity.
Donor Relations focus 
  • Work with development officers to facilitate stewardship reports for six-figure commitments (that are not being supported by the Program Manager for Donor Relations).
  • Provide content (typically in the form of an email that can be forwarded) around affiliation areas within Leeds which could include:
  • Faculty publications (mainstream media).
  • Interesting student stories.
  • Academic calendar achievements (especially related to graduate programs).
  • Leeds Scholars, Office of Diversity Affairs, etc.

This is a two-year appointment.

The salary range is $45,000-$50,000 annually.

What We Require

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Some experience or knowledge of alumni engagement, fundraising or equivalent sales, account management, client services, or other related experience.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience working with a large, sophisticated organization.
  • Experience in customer service, sales, fundraising, and/or managing volunteer and affiliate populations.
  • Graduate of CU Boulder.
