Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) is encouraging applications for an Electrical Engineer V. This position is a senior electrical systems engineer that performs and oversees advanced designs, analyses, and tests. They architect systems and may be a lead EE. They make decisions and communicate those with project management, systems engineers, and science. They have proficiency in many of the EE fields, and they work closely with the leads of the other fields of engineering and lab management.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Work closely with other engineering fields, project management, and Lab management.
  • Architect large electrical systems and subsystems (instruments or spacecraft).
  • Define complex production documentation and processes.
  • Collaborate with other engineering fields and project management as needed for projects/programs.
  • May be Lead EE on large projects.
  • Peer review systems and adept in one or more of the other engineering fields and project management.
  • Support proposal efforts in a lead role, and may manage large proposal efforts.
  • Work with PM in the generation of budgets and schedules.
  • Mentor and supervise students and more junior EE’s; may write and conduct annual reviews.
  • Present at project-level reviews.
  • Write specifications for, and interacts with, vendors for components and subsystems.
  • Interact with customers.

$144,000.00 - $200,000.00.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and/or Electrical and Computer Engineering
  • 15 years of electrical engineering experience and a specialist in one or more of these EE fields, and proficient in most others:
    • Harnesses
    • GSE (H/W and S/W)
    • Embedded Design (H/W and S/W)
    • Digital PWB design
    • Digital FPGA (VHDL/Verilog) design
    • Analog/Detector/Mechanism Control/Monitoring
      • Low-noise, precision analog
    • Power Conversion (LVPS/HVPS) & EPS
    • RF/Comm
    • C&DH
    • Parts & Radiation Engineer
    • Layout techniques and management
      • Especially signal and power integrity, and mixed signal grounding methods
    • EMI/EMC design methods and test procedures
    • ESD mitigation, vacuum systems, thermal management
    • Electrical test and design verification
    • Analysis tools, common software tools, test integration software

What You Will Need

  • At least seven years of experience in designing for space environments and reliability.
  • Experience with schematic design tools (OrCad, Allegro, Eagle, Altium).
  • Experience with simulation tools (PSpice & LTSpice).
  • Experience with layout tools (OrCad, Allegro, Eagle, Altium).
  • Programming experience (C, Python, etc.).
  • Expert and/or advanced knowledge in:
    • Systems Engineering methodologies and practices as applicable to the EE fields
    • Program Management methodologies, especially pertaining to EE budgets and schedules
    • The effects of space environments (temperature, vacuum, radiation, charging) on EEE parts and materials
    • Reliability w.r.t. EEE parts and workmanship
  • May have the ability to model space radiation environment and their effects on electronic systems.
  • Knowledgeable in other engineering fields.
  • Organizational and social skills to lead a large team.
  • Expertise in the effects of space environments (temperature, vacuum, radiation, charging) on EEE parts and materials.
