Who We Are
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Install, repair, replace, maintain, and troubleshoot building electrical systems and components. This includes installation of wire ways; maintenance, operation and installation of VFD (variable frequency drive) units; installation, repair and replacement of motors; troubleshooting failed electrical circuits; collaborating with HVAC Shop to troubleshoot mechanical system components; and installing test equipment to determine loads on circuits.
- Assist the Utilities Division with switching and responding to emergencies related to Campus’ medium voltage electrical distribution system. Perform preventive maintenance, testing and repair to the secondary electrical distribution system and components, i.e. the building’s switch gear, motor control centers, panel boards, UPSs, backup generators and automatic transfer switches. The building’s secondary distribution system operates at 480 volts or less.
- Install, maintain, repair, test and operate Campus’ walkway and roadway lighting. The outside lights on Campus are a critical part of the Universities’ commitment to creating a safe environment for all users. There are about 1,000 exterior pole lights and several hundred exterior building lights to maintain, repair and operate. Test all exterior light circuits quarterly.
- Complete material issuance requests and purchase requests to procure needed material. When closing work orders, include closing comments and ensure repair work orders are created. As an essential services employee, responsible to respond to other duties as assigned on an “as needed” basis; this may include alternative work schedules. With all duties, the employee is required to drive a University vehicle and to carry tools and materials. Actively participate in safety meetings. Follow all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines, and adhere to Standing Operating Procedures for assignments and use of equipment. Participate in and complete all safety trainings. Report potential safety hazards, mistakes, accidents and/or procedural violations in a timely manner.
What You Should Know
- The anticipated work schedule for this in-person position is Monday - Friday from 7:00am - 3:30pm. This position may be required to work weekends, alternate, or extended shifts at the discretion of the work unit supervisor.

- The annual salary range for this role is $70,000 - $74,520.
- If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

- Current, valid licensure as a journeyman electrician from the Colorado Electrical Board.
