The University of Colorado and Housing Technology Services now encourages applications for an Electronics Specialist II! This position ensures safe, reliable, and well-maintained facilities for students, faculty, and staff at the University of Colorado by installing and maintaining electronic and mechanical security systems within Student Affairs.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Electronic Lock and Access Control Technical Training.
  • Support and Projects Installation, repair, calibration, and maintenance for electronic security systems including card access control (Salto and C-CURE), readers, control panels, wiring, IP Video cameras, NVR's, intrusion detectors, switches, and contacts. 
  • Certified software knowledge to train others to detect and address problems in various systems. 
  • Respond to daily service calls as well as supports ongoing internal and capital construction projects by being a point of contact for design reviews, installation, and standards inspections. 
  • Position required to drive a university vehicle to complete these assignments. 
  • Perform locksmithing by installation, repair, rework and maintenance of all door security hardware including magnetic locks, electronic strikes, electro-mechanical locks, pneumatic door operator and their controls, panic exit devices, and standard locking hardware. 
  • Re-key cylinders and make keys, issue, enter and track key issuance for Student Affairs by assigning keys, securing accurate authorization paperwork and inputting information in database. 
  • Order, receive and track inventory parts and consumables and processes the required paperwork for accounting. 
  • Assist management with writing training materials, repair procedures and specifications for the daily business of Integrated Security. 
  • Participate in the weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support calls. Other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department. 
  • Train others to take readings from test equipment and system documentation which are used to decide on accurate actions and procedures to take when faced with security hardware and software problems. 
  • Decide what life-safety precautions may need to be followed when installing security systems software or hardware and trains other staff to follow these precautions. 
  • Recognize or detect service issues that become persistent or ongoing in nature and make recommendations on these issues in an effort to save departmental budget on material and labor budgets. 
  • When a security/access systems or device fails, position must determine problem and arrive at a solution by troubleshooting, calibrating, measuring and inspecting the components of these systems such as power supplies, logic components, communications ports and wiring, contacts, switches, relays, recording devices and computer software. 
  • Installing security/access systems that evolve slowly, one site at a time, requires an ongoing working knowledge of the system’s capabilities and limitations. 
  • In order to accurately and efficiently allocate, locate and layout the components of the system, the position is required to have an in-depth working knowledge of these factors. 
  • Working with higher-level positions, this position installs, troubleshoots, and maintains systems all over Student Affairs facilities that are all tied to a central server/control.

  • This position operates a University vehicle and a valid Colorado Driver's License is required.
  • Participates in the weekly on-call rotation for after-hours support calls.

What We Require

  • Three years of technical experience repairing, performing maintenance, installing, modifying. 
  • Calibrating, certifying, or fabricating equipment and facilities related to the work assignment. 
  • Equipment and facilities may be primarily telecommunications equipment and facilities, media. 
  • Equipment and facilities, precision measuring equipment, or other electronics equipment and facilities. 
Substitutions: 
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis. 
  • This position operates a University vehicle and a valid Colorado Driver's License is required.

What You Will Need

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Five years of experience in the electronics security industry. 
  • Five years of experience with IP Video. 
  • Previous experience with mechanical locks.
