Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder Advancement Marketing and Communications team encourages applications for an Engagement Marketing Director! Reporting to the Executive Director of Advancement Marketing and Communications, the Engagement Marketing Director is responsible for developing and implementing engagement marketing for CU Boulder’s donors, alumni, parents, students and larger campus community. Specifically focused on internal and external awareness, the Engagement Marketing Director demonstrates a strong understanding of CU Boulder's contributions, impact, value and brand identity to advance the goals and priorities of Advancement, and ultimately, the university. This role requires strategic leadership in implementing/supervising cohesive, thoughtful, and impactful marketing and communications for the Office of Advancement.

This position is heavily involved in high-level, high caliber "big picture" projects and develops content and marketing strategies. In partnership with the Executive Director, this position plays a meaningful role in improving and maintaining key partnerships with Strategic Relations and other university-wide partners like the CU System Marketing and Communications team in an effort to align, promote and collaborate effectively and consistently. This position serves as the division's second-in-command on all marketing and communications matters, with limited authority to make decisions on behalf of the Executive Director. The Engagement Marketing Director leads a team (Engagement Marketing) of six members focused on engagement marketing programs, marketing operations, project and production management and engagement opportunities.

This position has the opportunity to work in a hybrid capacity, with some work hours taking place onsite at the CU Boulder campus and others being remote.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Engagement Marketing Lead

  • Implement and coordinate execution of integrated marketing and communications for Advancement including, but not limited to email, social media, print, website, event registration, graphic design, impact reports, proposals, toolkits, talking points and toolkits.
  • Work with Executive Director on strategy and execution for large-scale projects. Lead ideation and program development of signature marketing engagement programs and launches.
  • Develop content and digital marketing strategies to engage audiences. Lead and coordinate marketing operations with assistance from Associate Director of Marketing Operations. Ensure marketing operations (processes and workflow, campaign and email scheduling, content calendaring, content library, project management) are optimized. Write copy for email, website, print, registration pages, calendar listings, newsletters and other marketing/communication projects as necessary.
  • Provide leadership to members of the Engagement Marketing team. Provide support to the rest of the Advancement Marketing and Communications staff and serve in place of the Executive Director in their absence.
  • Ensure that all communications and marketing efforts are accurate and meet CU Boulder brand standards.
  • Collaborate closely with Creative Communications and Services team leads on integrated marketing projects and programs.

Measurement, Optimization, and Reporting

  • Set and review goals for marketing programs using metrics (email open and click-through rates, social media reach, Google analytics, survey results, etc.) to optimize marketing and drive strategy on future projects.

Cross-Campus Collaboration and Alignment

  • Work collaboratively with campus partners such as Strategic Relations, Athletics, Colleges, Schools and Units, plus university-wide partners.
  • Serve as a liaison to the Alumni Team.

What We Can Offer

  • The salary range for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or comparable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in marketing or related profession.
  • Experience producing copy for a wide variety of print and electronic uses.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • CU Boulder graduate.
  • Ten or more years of experience in marketing or related profession.
  • Project management experience and familiarity with project management software (i.e. Workfront).
  • Familiarity with Agile.
  • Experience working in a marketing team, advertising agency or similar environment.
  • Sophisticated website skills using Drupal, WordPress or other content management systems.
  • Familiarity with AP Style.
