Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder seeks a collaborative and strategic individual to serve as Faculty Director of Scholarly Resource Development. The Director will guide the Libraries’ vision for patron-focused development of library content and collections; ensure responsible stewardship of the University’s collections; and advocate for and cultivate an environment of diversity, respect, and inclusion. This tenure-track position provides leadership and guidance for the Scholarly Resource Development department, provides fiduciary oversight of an approximately $13.7 million scholarly content budget, and supervises 14 FTE, including 2 faculty in carrying out the Libraries’ acquisitions, collection development, and interlibrary loan borrowing functions.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The Director establishes strategic priorities for collections and scholarly resource related initiatives and projects, in collaboration with stakeholders within the libraries, across campus, and throughout the CU system. The Director actively participates in leadership roles across regional and national collaborations with organizations such as the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries, Greater Western Library Association, Center for Research Libraries, HathiTrust Digital Library, and other key strategic partners. 

What We Can Offer

The successful candidate will be appointed as full-time (12 month) tenure track faculty member. Rank will depend upon professional experience. Salary will be commensurate with experience and consistent with ARL averages for similar positions. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA administered retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.

What You Will Need

  • Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in library and information science (MLIS) or equivalent.
  • Five or more years of progressively responsible professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate for and cultivate an environment of diversity, respect, and inclusion.
  • One or more years of supervisory experience, with demonstrated success in promoting teamwork, collaboration, mentoring, and supporting professional growth. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current trends and policy issues related to collection development, acquisitions, and interlibrary loan.
  • Demonstrated success in leading projects and working in a team environment.
  • Experience with building and maintaining effective partnerships with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions in situations with multiple and complex variables.
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Potential for professional service and scholarly or creative work.

  • Commitment to support of and familiarity with the scholarly resource needs of a diverse community of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience developing creative and innovative solutions.
  • Experience working in regional or national collaborations, such as library consortia. 
  • Three or more years of experience supervising and managing a team of full-time employees.
  • Demonstrated experience in acquisitions or collection development.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a large organizational budget.
  • Record of professional service and scholarly or creative work.
