Job Summary

The Paul M. Rady Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time Faculty Fellow. This position involves teaching five engineering courses per academic year and some service on the Western Colorado University campus in Gunnison.

This is a non-tenure track appointment, and the position will report to the Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. This position is anticipated to start over summer 2025 and will go through the end of academic year 2025-2026.

Who We Are

The candidate’s service will be carried out on the Western Colorado University campus in Gunnison, Colorado as part of the Western Colorado University – CU Boulder Engineering Partnership Program (EPP). The EPP provides students with the opportunity to obtain a CU Boulder degree while staying on Western Colorado University’s campus. The EPP is housed in a new $60M dollar facility with state-of-the-art labs and facilities, allowing the program to concentrate on industry-focused projects and project-based learning initiatives, in a small classroom environment.

The EPP provides a terrific opportunity to work in a university setting and enjoy all the amenities of small town living in the mountains of central Colorado. Located in historic Gunnison, Western is minutes from mountain biking, skiing, climbing, rafting, and hiking. The Gunnison School District is consistently highly rated and after-school opportunities abound. We are a short drive (or free bus ride) from the charming resort town of Crested Butte, which offers a classic ski town experience. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • The typical distribution of work for this role is 80% teaching and 20% leadership and service.
  • The position involves teaching five engineering courses per academic year and some service on the Western Colorado University campus in Gunnison, beginning over summer 2025 and will go through the end of academic year 2025-2026.

What We Require

  • Candidate must have earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
  • Candidates must have experience teaching courses in Mechanical Engineering and Aerospace Engineering or experience teaching Mechanical Engineering Senior Capstone.

What You Will Need

  • Successful applicants will have demonstrated strong teaching ability and will be able to teach both lecture and lab-based courses.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to high-quality undergraduate and graduate engineering education and active engagement in the mechanical engineering field.
  • An interest in improving both undergraduate and graduate engineering education is desirable.
