Job Summary

The Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology invites applications for a Field Assistant in Costal Maine!

Description: Coastal ecosystems in the Gulf of Maine are experiencing some of the fastest rates of warming of any coastal region on Earth. In this project, we seek a temporary field assistant to work with a field team out of Colby College to survey and maintain an ongoing field experiment to quantify how rocky intertidal ecosystems in Maine are responding to these rapid changes. During the months of September through at least December 2024 with possibility for extension through the Spring 2, we seek a field assistant to spend periods of time up to one week, twice a month (overnight Monday-Friday) at our field research station on Allen Island (Port Clyde, ME). Food and lodging on the island will be covered, as well as any necessary field gear. Field station amenities include: heated bunkhouse, full kitchen, laundry, wifi, individual bedroom. Working hours will be roughly 10 hours per day, dependent on conditions, with free time between daily low tides.

Fieldwork in coastal rocky intertidal ecosystems consists of very early mornings and long hours in the outdoors, rain, snow, or shine. Conditions can range from hot and sunny to cold, wet, and windy. The most important skills for this job will be: ability to work in teams, ability to troubleshoot and improvise under uncertain or uncomfortable conditions, reliability, ability to communicate with team leaders especially in uncertain or uncomfortable conditions, attention to safety and detail, and stick-to-itiveness.
The University of Colorado Boulder is committed to building a culturally diverse community of faculty, staff, and students dedicated to contributing to an inclusive campus environment. We are an Equal Opportunity employer, including veterans and individuals with disabilities.
