Job Summary

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) encourages applications for a Professional Research Assistant with Flight Dynamics System (FDS) experience to support the development of autonomous navigation systems for one of several proposals that have been submitted.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  1. Develop, integrate, test and operate autonomous, on-board guidance and navigation systems.
  2. Develop the simulation for analysis and test verification of the autonomous systems.
  3. Systems engineering interface between the Flight Dynamics Systems Team and the Spacecraft Systems Team.

What We Require

  • Master’s degree with three years experience or PhD in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent engineering discipline.

What You Will Need

  • Strong background in autonomous navigation systems.
  • Strong background in radiometric tracking, optical navigation, maneuver design, and flight path control.
  • Strong background in estimation and filtering techniques. 

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Five years of engineering experience.
  • Phase B-D Guidance, Navigation & Control system experience.
  • Simulation system development experience.
  • Interplanetary spacecraft flight operations experience.
  • Python tool development experience.
  • Experience with autonomous software systems such as AutoNav or SMARTNav and simulation systems such as Basilisk.
