Job Summary

The Precision Laser Diagnostics Laboratory at the University of Colorado Boulder develops and deploys frequency comb laser spectrometers for sensing in atmospheric, biological, industrial and combustion environments. We are looking for a motivated research associate/postdoc to develop and deploy dual frequency comb laser absorption spectrometers for remote sensing of aerosols in the atmosphere, and other environments. The position offers unique training in Boulder’s own Nobel prize winning frequency comb laser technology, optical sensing, aerosol science, and mentorship. Anticipated start date November 1, 2024.

The Precision Laser Diagnostics Laboratory at the University of Colorado is a collaborative, entrepreneurial group of scientists and engineers focused on optical sensing in challenging environments. We are pioneers in developing and deploying frequency comb-based laser sensors.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The primary project is part of a dynamic, collaborative team of scientists and engineers from across the University of Colorado, Caltech, University of California, and three companies. Responsibilities include frequency comb development, data acquisition and laser control, and both laboratory and field-based studies. You will also be involved in projects translating these same tools to other environments.

The salary for this position will be $75,000 per year.

What We Require

  • PhD in Physics or Engineering.

What You Will Need

  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong work ethic.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience with laser absorption spectroscopy.
  • Experience with frequency comb lasers.
  • Past demonstrations of mentorship.
  • Strong design and fabrication skills.
