Job Summary

The Annual Giving team in the Office of Advancement at CU Boulder encourages applications for a Fundraising Data Analyst! This role joins a team that works to support CU Boulder’s vision to be a leader in addressing humanity’s greatest challenges through practices built on creating a positive donor experience.

Annual Giving works in close partnership with the Schools, Colleges, and Units on campus, Marketing and Communications, Donor Relations, and Data Insights as well as colleagues employed by the University of Colorado Foundation and System Advancement, to advance the mission of CU Boulder Advancement.

Under the guidance of the Senior Director of Annual Giving, the Data Analyst will be based out of the University of Colorado Boulder campus and is responsible for supporting the Annual Giving program through data-driven insights, segmentation strategies, and reporting. This role plays a key part in optimizing donor engagement, supervising fundraising performance, and enhancing the use of analytics tools. The analyst will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data accuracy, support campaign strategies, and drive efficiencies in donor outreach efforts.

The Annual Giving team is a newly formed, centralized team on the CU Boulder campus, focused on creating and implementing fundraising strategies supporting the acquisition and retention of entry-level and mid-level donors, and moving donors through the major gift continuum. This team prioritizes the ethical collection and use of data to support operations built on best-practices and champions a donor-first philosophy towards the solicitation of donors giving gifts of less than $25,000 in support of the short and long-term priorities of CU Boulder.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Segmentation Support 
  • Develop and maintain donor segmentation strategies for solicitations, stewardship, and engagement campaigns.
  • Supervise and adjust segmentation strategies based on donor behavior, giving history, and engagement trends.
  • Assist in A/B testing efforts to refine audience targeting and messaging effectiveness.
  • Work closely with the annual giving to inform targeted lists for email, direct mail, and digital campaigns.
  • Support the portfolio optimization of Annual Giving Development Officers, in partnership with Data Insights, Prospect Development and Research, by analyzing engagement trends and identifying high-potential prospects for strategic assignment.
Data Analysis and Reporting 
  • Generate reports and dashboards to track key performance indicators (KPIs) for annual giving campaigns and Annual Giving Development Officers.
  • Analyze donor trends, retention rates, and acquisition patterns to inform fundraising strategy.
  • Prepare post-campaign performance analyses to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
  • Audit and review report outputs to ensure insights are accurate, relevant, and aligned with strategy goals.
Analytic Application Support 
  • Leverage analytics tools (e.g., Cognos, Tableau) to interpret and present data insights that drive strategic decisions.
  • Identify trends and patterns in donor data that inform segmentation, engagement, and strategic messaging.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen data literacy and encourage data-informed decision making.
  • Support the application of predictive modeling outputs in campaign and portfolio strategy.
Project Management  
  • Manage data-related projects from planning through execution, ensuring set timelines and goals are met.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on data needs for fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain project documentation, including segmentation plans, data tracking methodologies, and reporting templates.
  • Work proactively to improve data collection and reporting workflows for efficiency.
  • Contribute to the planning and rollout of new data tools or platforms, ensuring their outputs align with fundraising strategy.
  • Coordinate with partners to ensure timely resolution of data delivery issues, with a focus on analytical impact.
Partner Success 
  • Work closely with internal partners, including the annual giving, data insights, finance, IT, and donor relations teams, to align data strategies with organizational goals.
  • Serve as a liaison between the data team and fundraising teams to ensure data insights are actionable.
  • Support cross-departmental initiatives by providing data-driven recommendations for donor engagement and stewardship strategies.
  • Stay informed about industry standard processes and emerging trends in fundraising analytics and donor behavior to enhance the organization’s data capabilities.

What You Should Know

  • This is a remote position that will be expected to travel to campus several times a year.
  • The core office hours are 8 am to 5 pm mountain time, Monday through Friday. 
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. 

What We Can Offer

The salary range is $75,000 - $85,000 annually.

What We Require

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • One (1) year of experience in data analysis in a higher education, nonprofit, or advancement services setting.
  • Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., Salesforce) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Experience with Python, or other data analysis tools.

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Excel) to present insights clearly and support strategic decision-making.
  • Knowledge of business intelligence principles, data management standard methodologies, and reporting processes.
  • Ability to identify trends and patterns in donor data to advise segmentation strategies, portfolio optimization, and engagement recommendations.
  • An understanding of relationship database structures and how data can be extracted.
  • Ability to apply donor data and campaign performance insights to enhance fundraising strategies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and timelines while adapting to evolving priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Understanding of relational database structures and how to extract and interpret relevant data.
  • Ability to translate sophisticated data insights into clear, actionable recommendations for fundraisers, leadership, and marketing teams.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of tact, discretion, and confidentiality when working with donor and institutional data.
  • Strong growth mindset, resilience, and perseverance in adapting to new challenges and improving processes.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Three (3) years of experience in data analysis, preferably in a higher education, nonprofit, or advancement services setting.
  • Software Used: Microsoft Office products: Outlook, Word, Excel, Zoom, Teams and PowerPoint.
