Job Summary
The Libraries at CU Boulder encourage applications for the General Collections and Japanese Language Metadata Specialist position! This position supports the discovery of Libraries collections through description of materials in multiple formats and by working on Team and Chapter projects. Reporting to the Head of the General Collections Cataloging Section, the Specialist performs original and adaptive cataloging in a variety of formats for the Libraries’ general collections, including new acquisitions, gifts, and other materials, as well as for Japanese language materials. This role also works on PCC-level cataloging, particularly for Japanese entities and materials. This position also collaborates with other Libraries teams and sections to support Japanese language needs for non-MARC metadata and archival descriptions and assists Japanese language bibliographers with acquisitions duties as needed. In coordination with the Section head for General Collections Cataloging, the Specialist participates in the development, evaluation, and documentation of policies, procedures, and workflows related to the cataloging of Japanese language materials in collaboration with RDS members and other library units.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Monographic Cataloging for New Acquisitions, Gifts, and Other Materials
- Performs monographic cataloging for newly acquired books, gifts, and other materials in a variety of formats, including print, media, electronic resources according to established national and local guidelines and standards, depending on team needs.
- Works on the team’s Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC) work, particularly by crafting BIBCO-level bibliographic records and NACO-level authority records.
- Aids with the team’s participation in the Library of Congress CIP Partnership Program by cataloging CIP titles.
Monographic Cataloging for Japanese Language Materials
- Perform original and adaptive cataloging for Japanese language print and media material according to established national and local guidelines and standards.
Collaborative Work
- Engages in RDS linked data initiatives.
- In coordination with other Libraries teams and sections, supports Japanese language needs for non-MARC metadata and archival descriptions.
- Assists Japanese language bibliographers with acquisitions duties as needed.
- Provides assistance for other library units to resolve cataloging problems or questions regarding Japanese language materials.
Professional Development and Service
- Pursues an active program of continuing education to remain current in national cataloging standards, technology, and trends.
- Participates in learning activities that promote inclusive excellence.
- Participates in relevant professional development and cross-training opportunities.
- May serve on library-wide and national level service committees, groups, and pods.
Procedures and Documentation Maintenance
- Collects new documentation from RDS Team for FOLIO procedures and policies.
- Publishes collected documents on RDS and Libraries' Sharepoint sites.
- Removes old documentation on Sharepoint that are no longer in practice.

A hybrid work modality is possible, with on-site work required at least three days per week.
What We Can Offer
The annual salary range for this full-time position is $47,000 - $52,870. A small relocation assistance stipend may be available within University Libraries guidelines

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience from an accredited university; The experience will substitute for the degree on a year for year basis.
- Proficiency in Japanese and strong communication skills in English.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Library and Information Science.
- Knowledge of PCC (NACO, BIBCO, SACO, or CONSER) and OCLC Enhance standards.
- Familiarity with FOLIO LSP.
- Bibliographic knowledge of one or more non-English languages (special preference given for knowledge of Cyrillic, Arabic, and/or Hebrew script).
- One or more years of relevant professional cataloging experience, including cataloging Japanese language materials.
- Experience cataloging in OCLC and an Integrated Library System (ILS) cataloging module.
