Job Summary

LASP manages the financial aspects for over 170 active grants and contracts, from proposal through award. We are seeking a dynamic financial professional to further LASP’s science mission by providing fiscal coordination, analytical support and management of sponsored projects/grants.  This is an entry level grant analyst position. This position provides administrative leadership to scientists and helps guide decisions that could have a financial impact on the lab. The grant analyst position helps drive effectiveness and efficiency of the lab’s administrative/business processes.

Who We Are

The Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) develops, designs, and builds instruments and spacecraft for space-based observations of the Sun, Earth, and planets. LASP has built instruments and participated in missions to every planet in the solar system. 

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Perform research, selection, and compilation of financial data from multiple sources, such as production, accounting, vendors, and travel to produce analysis of business information used to support decisions.
  • Function as the Business Analyst for multi‐year grants from proposal/pre‐award through project execution and project close‐out. This includes working closely with Principal Investigators and other project stakeholders to prepare proposal budgets, manage proposal submissions, provide financial data analysis, and advise on closeout process.
  • Initiate and manage sub‐contract and fabricated equipment accounts originating from awarded grants.
  • Review research grants to ensure project compliance with award terms and conditions, including reporting requirements, and identify issues as necessary.
  • Exercise considerable discretion and judgment in making recommendations related to the allocation of grant funds and expenditures.
  • Apply knowledge of accounting principles, auditing standards, budgeting principles, budgeting practices, analytical techniques, and interprets/evaluates compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with other Grant Business Analysts to problem solve, update processes and procedures, and optimize effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Interact frequently with principal investigators, functional managers, and directors requiring a high level of communication skills to analyze and resolve issues.
  • Other duties as assigned to facilitate continuity within research programs at LASP.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's degree in business or equivalent.
  • 0 to 2 years of related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office products.

What You Will Need

  • Able to resolve routine issues and make independent/logical decisions and/or recommendations.
  • Basic understanding of federal, state, and university priniciples. 
  • Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data.
  • Able to general financial reporting for internal and external customers.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task while under pressure.
  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees, customers, and vendors.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Positive outlook and self-starter. 

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
  • Prior experience working as a grant or financial analyst.
  • Basic understanding of project management concepts and tools.
  • Basic understanding of Earned value management.
