Job Summary

The Wardenburg Health Center invites applications for a Health Information Management Coordinator. This position serves as an organizational expert for Health and Wellness Administrative Services critical business applications, the Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Patient Management Information System (PMIS), providing the link between technology and its utilization in a clinical setting. This position possesses a comprehensive knowledge of medical, administrative, ethical and legal requirements, and standards related to healthcare delivery and the privacy of protected patient information. They serve as an expert in managing patient health information and medical records. The Coordinator also performs defined procedures within the Health Information Management Department (HIM) to maintain the workflow of health information, perform quality verification audits and reports as requested for compliance monitoring. They are responsible for developing, maintaining, and delivering a standardized role-based training program for staff positions. The Coordinator supports the organization's vision and direction for clinical documentation and functions independently and as a team member.

The Wardenburg Medical Clinic provides a wide range of health care services for students including, but not limited to: primary care for illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Health Information Management
  • Serve as an organizational expert in managing incoming records and releasing patient health information and medical records.
  • Assist in acquiring outside records for providers for patient visits or from the health information exchange.
  • Oversee the medical records life cycle which includes; processing, scanning, storage, retrieval and disposition requiring a thorough knowledge of legal medical record requirements, medical record forms/content and relevant clinical work flows. 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for health information operations including evolving documentation opportunities, record retention, and assurance/monitoring of data integrity and will assist in collecting and analyzing patient data. 
Training and Staff Development 
  • Develop and conduct role based training for all staff in utilizing and documenting in the practice management information systems and the electronic health record. This includes development of job aids, help systems, user guides and training content. Formal validation of learning is tracked to ensure training results in transfer of learning.  
  • Act as a resource for on-going training to professional, clinical, and clerical staff.

What We Can Offer

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $56,000.

What We Require

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • At least two years of experience in a health care environment working with electronic medical records and/or health care software.
  • Experience using peripheral digital scanning technologies and equipment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency of computer and office software skills.
  • Proficiency in word processing, databases and spreadsheets.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Training experience in a health care environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health information procedures & terminology.
  • License/Certification: Registered Health Information Administrator, or equivalent.
