Job Summary
The Research & Innovation Office (RIO) encourages applications for an IACUC Coordinator! The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is federally mandated under the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) and Public Health Service (PHS) Policy to oversee all aspects of research involving animal subjects.
The IACUC Coordinator will administratively support the various functions of the CU Boulder Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), will advise investigators who are preparing protocol submissions, and will collaborate and coordinate frequently with various partners in the program including the IACUC Chair, Occupational Health and Safety, and the Office of Animal Resources.

The IACUC consists of scientists, non-scientists, and community members. Its goal is to facilitate ethically responsible non-human animal research and provide oversight over the entire Animal Care & Use Program.
All research, teaching and testing projects conducted by faculty, staff or students involving vertebrate animal subjects at CU Boulder are required to be reviewed and approved by the IACUC before engaging in the research or other endeavors.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Submission Intake and Review
- Monitor protocol submissions and evaluate for completeness, working constructively with research staff as needed prior to distributing to IACUC members for review.
- Conduct technical pre-review of animal use protocols for completeness and regulatory compliance. Consults with the Director of the IACUC Office, Attending Veterinarian (AV), or IACUC Chair as needed to ensure accuracy of pre-review in complex cases.
- Facilitate the Designated Member Review and/or Full Committee Review process.
- Conduct administrative reviews of Annual Renewals or route for IACUC review when required.
- Identify and record Guide exceptions and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC) -specific information.
- Monitor the IACUC email and other correspondence to ensure that submissions, questions, and other action items are identified and addressed.
- Work constructively with investigators, as needed, to ensure protocols follow federal and state regulations and University policies and procedures before distributing to IACUC members for review.
Committee Coordination
- Compile reviewer comments in advance of IACUC meetings.
- Prepare and distribute meeting agendas and materials.
- Record and transcribe meeting minutes and communicate Committee decisions to the research community at CU Boulder.
- Coordinate semi-annual facility inspections and track identified deficiency items and associated completion dates.
Program Support
- Assist the IACUC Director in the development of standard operating procedures and office manuals.
- Send invoices for external IACUC protocols and inspections.
- Assist in identifying areas of programmatic improvement.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining records of IACUC activities following Public Health Service (PHS) and United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations and AAALAC standards.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with investigators, faculty and IACUC members.
- Provide back-up support to the Business Analyst as needed.
Education and Outreach
- Assist the Business Analyst in providing primary Key Solutions training and materials for investigators.
- Share responsibility, in collaboration with the Director, in providing regulatory presentations for IACUC training to the IACUC as developed by the IACUC Office.
What You Should Know
- This position offers a hybrid work modality with 2 days per week on campus and 3 days per week of remote work with flexibility to support on-site events.
What We Can Offer
The hiring range for this position is $57,100 - $60,000.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 1+ years of relevant professional experience (animal research, animal technician, research compliance or a related area).
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may substitute.

What We Would Like You to Have
- Degree in a related science field.
- Specialized knowledge and prior experience with regulations concerning animal research protections.
- 1+ years of IACUC experience.
- CPIA certification or eligibility.
- Proficiency with web editing and database management.
- Experience writing Standard Operating Procedures.
