This position with the Facilities Management Information Systems group is responsible for system and database administration, network and computer system security administration, and new application analysis and implementation.  Its primary responsibilities include providing system administration and user support of multi-platform systems, servers, networking, virtual infrastructure, security, and specialized software applications that support both the department internally as well as management of campus facilities.

Who We Are

Facilities Management Information Systems (FMIS) provides a broad range of services in support of the department programs and campus facilities.  The group is responsible for systems and applications ranging from traditional business applications to building automation systems along with the associated server, virtualization, networking, security and data storage environments.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

System and Database Administration 
  • Implement and administer Microsoft Windows servers, Active Directory organizational units and group policies, Microsoft SQL databases, virtualized system environments, storage area network (SAN) and enterprise-class business applications. 
  • Anticipate and resolve system issues that may present operational problems. 
  • Develop and implement procedures and documentation pertaining to the department's systems and applications. 
  • Work closely with users to understand and resolve support requests. 
  • Monitor and respond to service request system issues. 
 Network and Computer System Security Administration  
  • After installing base operating systems and applications, perform server hardening to meet security standards set by senior staff. 
  • Utilize current best practices and ensure compliance with all applicable department and university policies and procedures. 
  • Work closely with FMIS security staff to adapt security standards based on changes in industry trends. 
 Information Systems Project Coordination
  • Coordinate between the FMIS System Administration Group, campus IT, supporting consultants, capital construction project managers, vendors, and department staff to ensure new solutions meet customer needs (as directed by supervisor) and schedules while maintaining department and campus standards and policies. 
  • Assist with determining when new information systems are needed and then help plan, evaluate, implement and support the new systems.

Salary range starts at $60,000, commensurate with skills and experience.

What We Require

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in computer science or a closely related subject area and 2 years of experience in an IT field (such as: systems administration, desktop support, network engineering, or security utilizing current technologies.) 
    • Additional work experience in IT may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the bachelor’s degree.
  • Proven ability to identify and implement solutions that address multi-faceted requirements.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills as well as the ability to work well both independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to learn, interpret and comply with complex policies and procedures.
  • A valid driver's license.

What We Would Like You To Have

Formal training, certifications or demonstrated work experience in one or more of the following areas: 
  • Windows or Unix/Linux Administration.
  • Networking (Cisco IOS or Juniper JunOS Preferred).
  • OS Security Hardening or other IT Security.
  • VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle Administration.
  • Storage Area Networks.
  • Experience supporting facilities (building systems or industrial controls systems).
