Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder encourages applications for an IT Security Analyst to join the Office of Information Technology Security team! The Analyst will assist with core risk and compliance work that supports the campus security program. OIT-Sec provides campus direction to ensure CU Boulder's information technology (IT) assets remain appropriately protected, both those that are managed by OIT as well as those managed at the unit or department level. OIT-Sec provides a risk management function to support a secure campus IT environment through a focus on alignment to industry standard processes, recommendations of vetted, secure solutions, and clear expectations driven by security policies, procedures and standards.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
  • Risk Management 
    • The IT Security Analyst position will support risk and compliance duties serving the entire campus, with a focus on supporting the needs of the research environment, including:
      • Analyze new cyber risk review requests and coordinate with requestors to support their understanding of these processes and the progress of their request.
      • Provide guidance supporting the design of risk mitigation strategies and mechanisms.
      • Assist with risk assessments and provide guidance to partners concerning the handling of security risks associated with assessment findings.
      • In support of risk evaluation services, develop, review, and maintain internal and external security documentation and resources.
      • Offer direction and guidance as needed to internal project partners concerning statutory, regulatory, and CU policy requirements.

What You Should Know

  • This position is available as a full-time position with hybrid working options; The position will require in-person presence on an infrequent basis at the University of Colorado Boulder campus.

  • Salary: $69,492 - $78,154.

What We Require

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in business, compliance, information technology, computer science, information security or related field. A combination of education and/or equivalent professional experience may be substituted by professional experience on a year for year basis).
  • One (1) year of professional experience in compliance, risk management, information security, information technology, and/or information systems.

What You Will Need

  • To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following:
  • Knowledge of risk management processes (e.g., methods for assessing and mitigating risk).
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, policies, and ethics as they relate to cybersecurity and privacy.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity and privacy principles used to manage risks related to the use, processing, storage, and transmission of information or data.
  • Skill in verbal and written communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills.
  • Skill to apply cybersecurity and privacy principles to organizational requirements (relevant to confidentiality, integrity, availability, authentication, non-repudiation).
  • Ability to translate sophisticated concepts into simple, clear and concise messages that technical and non-technical audiences can quickly comprehend.
  • Ability to establish, maintain and cultivate positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Ability to multitask and work well individually, as well as cooperatively with others in support of team effort.
  • Ability and interest to continually learn and grow professionally.
  • Ability to build and follow work plans.
  • Ability to work across departments and business units to implement organization’s privacy principles and programs, and align privacy objectives with security objectives.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience in compliance, risk management, information security, information technology, and/or information systems.
  • Experience working within IT or compliance in the higher education industry.
