Job Summary
The Colorado Law School at the University of Colorado Boulder welcomes applications for an Immigration Clinic Staff Attorney! The Colorado Law Clinical Program opened its doors in 1948, with the goal of instructing law students through the basics of trial practice and client representation before municipal and county courts in Boulder County. Since then, the clinical program has grown to include nine specialized clinics, all of which address critical community needs, including immigration defense, environmental litigation, business start-up support, criminal defense, and legal support for Native American communities. The Clinical Program provides second- and third-year law students with the opportunity to refine their legal skills and forge their professional identities while providing outstanding legal representation to clients who are most in need.
Who We Are
At the Colorado Law School, we are an engaged, diverse, and welcoming community of students, faculty, staff, and alumni who help one another succeed. Our selective admissions process keeps our student body small, enabling our faculty, staff, alumni, and community to invest deeply in each student’s success. Because we take our responsibility to educate and train future lawyers very seriously, our curriculum, research centers, and experiential learning opportunities are crafted to prepare students for success in today’s changing legal environment.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The staff attorney in the Immigration Clinic will work closely with the Director of the Immigration Defense Clinic to provide direct representation to clinic clients navigating a wide range of immigration matters. The role will also assist in instructing and supervising law students enrolled in the clinic. Students in the Immigration Clinic represent noncitizen clients in immigration removal proceedings and related state criminal court proceedings and assist clients eligible for affirmative immigration relief, including family-based adjustment, asylum, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status.
Essential Functions:
- Provide direct legal representation to clinic clients year-round, including during the academic year and summer. This includes working collaboratively with enrolled clinic students and handling cases independently.
- Supervise and mentor second- and third-year law students, with a focus on developing their skills as ethical, effective, and compassionate advocates. Support their learning through hands-on legal experience and instruction on the history, policy, and practice of U.S. immigration law.
