Job Summary

The University of Colorado Boulder College of Music invites applications for a non-tenure track, three-year renewable appointment as Instructor with expertise in music education (orchestra/strings) and string pedagogy. Appointment to commence in August 2019.

Who We Are

The College of Music offers degree programs in Performance, Musicology, Composition and Music Education from the Bachelor’s Degree through the Doctorate. There are 300 undergraduate and 250 graduate music majors within the College taught by 58 full-time and 23 part-time faculty.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Teach undergraduate and Master’s-level music education (instrumental methods, secondary music teaching approaches, applications of music pedagogy) and string pedagogy courses; conduct chamber orchestra as needed; supervise student teachers; advise undergraduate and graduate music education students; serve on Masters-level committees, supervise Master’s theses. Opportunities for additional summer teaching are possible. Additional duties include fostering relationships with area school orchestra teachers, recruiting students for the Music Education program and service on College of Music committees. Professional engagement, including presentations at state conferences or adjudication at regional orchestra festivals is expected.

What We Require

  • Master’s Degree.
  • Minimum 3 years successful K-12 orchestra or college-level teaching required.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • ABD status or completed doctorate in music education or conducting preferred.
  • College-level teaching experience preferred.
