Job Summary

The College of Music at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for an Instructor of Voice! This is a non-tenure-track position. We seek a teaching artist to join our renowned faculty to support the growth of our new Bachelor of Music in Musical Theatre (BM/MT) degree. This is a one-year 75% (three-quarter-time) Instructor appointment, with commensurate salary and full benefits, renewable up to a three-year contract period. The position will commence in August 2020.

Founded in 1920, the College of Music offers a wide range of programs for undergraduate and graduate study, combining advanced musical training with professionally oriented experiences and the rich resources of a world-class research university. The college has approximately 250 graduate and 300 undergraduate students, 70 full-time faculty, 30 part-time faculty, and 30 professional, technical and administrative support staff. Active as award-winning professional performers, composers and scholars, College of Music faculty members are committed to helping students develop their talents and succeed in their chosen musical endeavors. The college provides a distinct advantage to its students through a top-tier, comprehensive education in music, trendsetting initiatives and outstanding performance opportunities. The Bachelor of Music in Musical Theater is an exciting new degree program, now in its inaugural year. Students train in a rigorous program of voice, acting, dance, and other courses designed to offer real-world skills upon graduation and to prepare them for professional careers in the field of musical theater. The voice faculty at CU is known for their excellent teaching, their presence as active national and international performers, and their emphasis on collegiality within the department.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Duties will include teaching applied voice lessons to primarily undergraduate voice majors (18 weekly teaching hours), utilizing both classical and musical theater repertoire and techniques. Service will be required as appropriate. Participation in departmental activities and recruitment is expected.

What We Require

Applicants should have professional teaching experience in and be knowledgeable about past and current musical theater vocal demands, styles, trends, repertoire, and pedagogy. The candidate should also be an experienced musical theater performer and possess a broad knowledge of repertoire as well as basic piano skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Voice and/or Musical Theater is required. 

What We Would Like You To Have

A Master’s degree is preferred.
