Instructor Position (Non-Tenure Track) in Environmental Design, University of Colorado Boulder

The Environmental Design Program (ENVD) of the University of Colorado Boulder is recruiting an instructor focusing on communications in support of the Environmental Design disciplines of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Planning and Product Design. The position is expected to begin the upcoming fall semester in August 2019.

The program has been cultivating critical and creative thinkers, designers, and planners for over 50 years and has more than 4,300 alumni. The ENVD program is well renowned and is committed to spearheading the next generation of environmental designers by integrating knowledge of the built and natural environments with holistic and critical design thinking. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The ENVD program, a leader in environmental design education, seeks an enthusiastic, energetic instructor with a defined and articulated teaching philosophy to teach writing and communications in support of the design-based curriculum in ENVD. The selected candidate will teach undergraduate writing and both the introductory and advanced levels as well as assisting in the ENVD honors program and with the development of a writing through the curriculum effort. In addition to teaching, the candidates will have service requirements for contributions to curriculum/program development and related academic committee work.

Applicants are required to have experience in teaching writing at multiple levels as well as working with design professionals to teach communication skills. Candidates will be asked to describe how they can contribute to a holistic environmental design pedagogy.

Salary packages are competitive and commensurate with experience. The positions are 9 month/100% full-time equivalent. A typical workload for instructor-ranked faculty is 80% teaching and 20% service. Individuals with outstanding qualifications will be considered at Senior Instructor rank.

What We Require

  • Applicants are required to have experience in teaching writing at multiple levels as well as working with design professionals to teach communication skills. Candidates will be asked to describe how they can contribute to a holistic environmental design pedagogy.
  • Minimum of two academic years of teaching experience, full-time equivalent. 
  • A PhD or terminal Master’s degree in a communications or writing-based field.
