Job Summary

The Department of Sociology at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a position as Instructor of Sociology. The appointment will initially be for three years, with the possibility of three-year reappointments thereafter. This is a full-time, 9-month position that will consist of eight courses per academic year (four per semester) and accompanying administrative and service duties. Candidates should be able to cover a wide array of courses, preferably including courses related to gender and/or sexuality.  

Candidates should consider how they both align with and expand the department’s current course offerings. We are also interested in candidates with demonstrated ability to cultivate and advocate for an environment of diversity and inclusive excellence based on the position’s responsibilities, as well as demonstrated success working with diverse populations. 

Who We Are

The Department of Sociology at CU Boulder is comprised of 20 tenured-tenure track faculty covering a wide range of topical expertise. Our faculty also includes 4 rostered, full-time instructors. Combined, faculty within the Sociology Department at CU Boulder represent expertise in 11 areas of the discipline including criminology and criminal justice; culture; environment, hazards, and disasters; gender; health and medicine; life course, aging, and youth; migration/immigration; political economy; population; race and ethnicity; social psychology and emotions. Also important, strong methodological expertise is represented with regard to quantitative, qualitative, as well as mixed-method approaches.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

  • Teach eight courses per academic year (four per semester) on a wide array of topics, including those at the introductory-level;
  • Participate in service at the department and university levels;
  • Pursue professional development in teaching and mentoring.

  • This is a 9-month, academic year position with additional compensation typically available in summer months for teaching through Continuing Education.
  • The appointment will begin in August 2020.  
  • Applicants must have a PhD in sociology or comparable field by the time of the appointment.
