Job Summary

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at CU Boulder invites applications for an Internship Training Director to lead all aspects of the APA internship program. The Director coordinates the annual selection of trainees, ensures compliance with internship requirements (i.e. accreditation self-studies, reports, etc.), onboards, trains and evaluates interns, communicates with the interns' universities, and provides support to supervisory staff. This role represents CU Boulder by attending Training Director's conferences to update their knowledge on training trends, requirements, and standard methodologies.

This role collaborates with other Student Affairs and CU departments as is appropriate for the treatment of CAPS' patients and ensures that issues of Diversity and Social Justice are considered in all assessment, treatment, referral, and training services provided.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Training Program

  • Coordinate and ensure the quality of the APA accredited internship in the department.
  • Supervise the selection and recruitment of incoming interns. Provide supervision for trainees. Collaborate with the training team to support the onboarding and orientation of interns.
  • Serve as the Lead regarding intern personnel matters. Develop assessment tools and conduct data analyses on the internship program.

Clinical Services

  • Provide an array of mental health services to students, including individual therapy groups/workshops, couples therapy, telehealth, and screening sessions.
  • Provide limited crisis assessment and interventions to clients.
  • Maintain detailed and timely treatment records via EHR.


  • Represent CU Boulder in attending relevant Training Directors meetings. Compile and prepare data reports on the training internship program.

What We Can Offer

The salary range for this position is $75,000 - $114,000 annually. Starting salary is dependent on licensure and experience. Onboarding assistance is available within Student Affairs divisional guidelines.

What We Require

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. degree in Psychology.
  • Licensed in the state of Colorado as a Psychologist by the date of hire.
  • Two years’ post-licensure professional experience providing psychotherapy in a mental health setting.
  • Completion of an APA internship.
  • At least two years of leadership experience with unlicensed psychology trainees, including at least one year of direct supervisory experience.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges as determined by the Credentialing and Privileging policies.

  • Proficiency in the diagnosing, assessment, and treatment of mental disorders.
  • Proficiency in data and statistical analyses and report writing.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven dedication to diversity and inclusivity.
  • Updated knowledge about the APA internship requirements and state requirements regarding supervision and provision of services by unlicensed clinicians.
  • Basic digital literacy, including experience with Windows-based systems and EHR.

What We Would Like You To Have

  • Experience supervising an APA internship program.
  • Experience in college counseling.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State standards regarding mental health.
  • Some knowledge or experience working with accreditation standards (i.e. AAAHC, IACS, JCAH, NCQA, APA, etc.)
