Job Summary
The Assistant Facilities Supervisor supports the maintenance and operations of approximately 200,000 sq ft of office and laboratory space across five buildings at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP). Reporting to the Head of LASP Facilities, this position supervises a team of para-professional staff and serves as a key liaison with building occupants, contractors, and vendors. The role ensures effective day-to-day functioning of facilities through oversight of maintenance, repairs, safety compliance, renovations, construction support, and related facility programs.
This position requires on-site presence at least four days per week and may involve after-hours support as needed.

LASP is a world-renowned space science research institute at the University of Colorado Boulder employing over 700 scientists, engineers, support personnel, and students. The University of Colorado receives more NASA funding than any public university in the country, due in large part to LASP programs. Professional engineers work closely with scientists and assembly technicians in designing and building space flight hardware while helping mentor students as entry-level engineers working on these programs. What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Supervise daily operations of facilities support staff, setting priorities and ensuring timely completion of tasks.
- Oversee preventative maintenance and repairs of electrical, plumbing, HVAC systems, buildings, and grounds and perform repairs
- Provide effective customer service including responding to requests for lab support and information from LASP scientists, researchers, engineers, and students
- Act as assistant project manager on assigned renovation and construction projects; coordinate with external contractors and vendors.
- Manage work order system, ensuring effective communication and timely resolution of facilities-related requests.
- Oversee office moves across all LASP buildings including furniture management
- Manage lab cleaning program
- Oversee the LASP vehicle fleet
- Ensure health and safety policies and internal lab facility policies are enforced
- Coordinate with staff and leadership to provide logistical support for events and building operations.
- Support efforts to maintain controlled facilities including physical building upgrades, access changes, and other assigned tasks

$71,200.00 - $85,000.00.

What We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in facilities management, construction, engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in facilities management, construction, or similar operational environment.
- Experience with maintenance and repair of small equipment and building systems (electrical, HVAC, plumbing).

- Ability to lead teams and coordinate tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal - especially in customer-facing environments.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and facilities management software (e.g., work order systems).
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to manage priorities and resolve operational challenges professionally.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Understanding of relevant building codes, environmental health & safety standards, and regulatory compliance.

- Familiarity with specialized lab infrastructure such as optics labs, clean rooms, or vacuum systems.
- Project coordination or supervisory experience in a facilities operations context.
